The torpedo is not a smart weapon. It does not distinguish between an enemy sub, or your own sub, or a friendly platform. It will go after whatever it finds on its personal sensors. In fire control, you are simply designating where the torpedo will start searching for a target.
You have to be careful around civilians, because the torpedo is hungry, and doesn't care what it eats. The only thing a torpedo cares about is that it gets a meal.

In fire control, make sure that you have the correct presets also...especially RTE and search pattern! Also, utitlize all sensors available; ESM, Periscope, and NB sonar, to have correct classification and TMA ranging.

Try using a snapshot and see if it continues
If your attacking a sub and neutral shipping is around you must set a limit on how shallow the torp can go. Because if it detects a ship on its way to the sub it will go after it.

What can help is a clear Situation Awareness of the enviroment. A torpedo is not a shoot-and-forget weapon but it may require corrections on the way to the target. Once you shoot, keep on tracking the target and see what it does (speed change, course change, fired decoys, etc...)...
I hope this helps... ;)
Assigning a S## or a M## to a tube is not enought. This will only give a bearing to your torpedo.
In addiction, you always have to set some parameters manually, at least the RTE (run to enable). 80% of the expected target range is normally a good setting (if there's not a lot of traffic).
The ceiling parameter is also tricky, I personally always change it.
Also, each torpedo has his special capabilities. If you shot a wakehoming torpedo perpendicular to the course of your surface target it will easily miss it.

Ceiling is not so important IMHO.Floor is much more tricky to set...Imagine...your boat is above continental shelf..some 400ft deep...but enemy is deeper, lets say 800ft..So ?Do u set fish to your floor limit or u will risk it and set to even 1000ft(becose that is the "space"enemy sub has).. :arrgh!:
I solved his problem over msn messenger...
The problem was solved by turning "show dead" off

He was shooting at sunken ships?
He hit a ship and "another" ship appeared nearby, exploding.
