i am about finished with my mod of the altered WWII timeline, but something has me wondering......since in the new timeline Himmler finally got his wish to create SS naval units, where as in the real timeline he failed in that attempt, i was wondering what substitute TGAs i should provide for our poor German friends? i have no complaint about their anti-nazi emblem laws, not much different than all the anti-porn laws right here in the USA. but what i was wondering, what exactly should i provide for Germans? a uboat with the runic SS on the tower obviously will not do for them. the goofy out-of-focus look used in SH3 won't do either - it reminds me of all those out-of-focus body parts in the censored American media. So what should i use????

maybe i could use MY Jewness to get special permission for my TGAs in Germany?? http://service.spiegel.de/cache/international/0,1518,404573,00.html

not likely. so i am open to any suggestions or designs for SS uboat flotilla emblems.

thats why i added the SS flotillas. The SS had a way of always getting the best of everything several years before anyone else got it. so the SS get the XXI in January 43. of course the new timeline that has Britain defeated and thus no USA heavy bombing of German ships yards and factories also helps.....

What i was out to do was turn SH3 back into what subs were first invented for - sinking warships. i used to do nothing but play my DD-Arenas - an area fenced off with subnets - shallow water and lots of DDs. i tried the IuBs and so forth and the careers of shooting fish in a wallowing bucket to death... merchants... and i decided i'd try to build a mode where the ships in piles i go after will be task forces and not convoys. cause let's face it - a real merchant all by itself in the sea would not spot a sub headed for it on the surface and then just start making little zigzags but continue to stay on course for the next waypoint. But the DDs, those babies really respond. No fixed lines for them.

so i asked myself....yes, subs started out as a poor nations dream to solve the big-warship gap...and that is also where subs ended up in the 50s and 60s (cause neither the Russians nor the USA thought their sub's main wartime mission would be sinking containerships full of plastic Barbies.) Nor could either nation serious think that their subs could starve the other into destruction with the use of TNT torpedoes. Their whole aim was GO AFTER the other guy's warships.

The only reason German subs were used mainly against merchants was because of Britain. Factor out Britain, and the whole war in the Atlantic would have reset itself (like a rebooting computer) back to subs aiming mainly at warships. No Britain - no giant American rock-aircraft-carrier setting tens of miles off Europe. without that there would be no heavy American bombing of German industry. and if you ever look at all the German Luft Art - such as -http://www.luft46.com/luftart.html
to name but ONE site, you quickly will realize that apparently Banjo-Joe and Ivan aircraft designers from 1945 through 1974 did nothing all day but drink whisky and vodka while playing cards, and only during the last hour of the day would they pull out the old German blueprints and translate some of them into English or Russian. The Jerrys had the MIG, the best plane of the Korean war, already built. They had plans for basically an f-15, something the US would not drag out until decades later.

Had it not been for air-craft carrier England, we'd all be speaking 'Wienerschnitzel'! And how hard was Britain to beat? Let's see Hitler lost about 8 million soldiers, most of them on the eastern front! He had about 300,000 +/- Brits on the Dunkirk beach, broken, having retreated and lost much of their equipment and then he listened to his fat friend Hermon! But had he given his panzer generals the order to drive on and crush the Brits under their tank treads, a lot of things would have turned out different. and had he risked the channel and lost heavily, it would have been nothing like Russia at all.

anyway, once Britain is out of the way, the MOD finds itself in a real war at sea, expanding to cover much of the globe. Sight-seeing to be done in the Persian Gulf, Horn of Africa, South America (and Germany's new allies that suddenly stop sitting on the fence (like Chile). It makes for a more diverse and larger scene.

An alternate timeline? :hmm: Now I wish someone would make models of ships which were never actually completed by the Axis - especially the carriers Graf Zeppelin, Aquila, and Sparviero. It's scenarios/campaigns like this that prove that such ships could prove useful to some modders. :yep:

That is a proposition very dangerous for the fool that follows it.

I am wondering, would be a retarded to admit this, and to give the opportunity to the police to knock down your door?

just a thought...what is the punishment for breaking such laws?

Actually there is still much confusion about this topic here in Germany. 60 years after the war you have of course many people not taking these laws too seriously, displaying the swastika, or making fun about the whole topic (just look at the growing number of Hitler parodies in the recent years). You must realize that most people alive today have not lived during the times and have practically the same relation to it than most of you. And it makes of course a difference if you do these things in your home or at a monument for Nazi crimes or in front of Jews.

So, of course you have people using the swastika in computer games, but it is of course not something that is sanctioned by the law.

The laws might be a bit paranoid, but I personally feel it is still better than having people waving Nazi flags in a demo and nothing the police can do about it.

mmm the german police must have better things to do then knock down doors of people playing a computergame which shows a little swastika :D

You could get some inspiration from Laibach (slovenian Elektro-pioneers)

http://www.laibach.nsk.si/

The band has created and used several fake symbols which they wear at concerts and in various artwork. They don't stand for neonazi ideas, rather an attempt to play with extreme ideologies and show their absurdity ("Rechts den Roten Blitz, Links den Schwarzen Stern"). A lot of people don't understand it though.
