I was bored and was tinkering around with a stock version of SHIII (one of many versions on my harddrive :88) ). I put together some mods and fixes that, I believe, enhance a stock installation of SHIII with patch 1.4b. I created a readme of sorts, and if anyone is interested I can upload it.
This is basically for those who are running Silent Hunter III stock with patch 1.4b installed. This is just a pack with various mods that I put together that fixes some bugs with SHIII. My aim with this was to just make things easier to enhance the playability of stock SHIII. Included, where necessary, are readme files for each individual mod used. Here are the changes done by this little pack:
· Fixed IXD2 Torpedo Loadout Bug (Used Wolfie’s Tweak Pack)
This bug is caused by the IXD2 having eight external torpedoes. The game really only handles six well. I used Wolfie's Tweak Pack to remove two external torpedoes and add two forward extra torpedoes.
· Changed U-boats to real life ranges and crush depths (Used SH3 Crush Depth V2 Tool)
I used values taken from http://www.uboat.net to change the ranges and crush depths of the submarines.
· Change Submarine Snorkel Depths
I changed the CFG file for each individual submarine. This was done to help the player evade enemy aircraft when using the snorkel. Stock snorkel depth settings seemed to be too high. I used values that I found when testing how deep the sub can go while still being able to breath. I tested those values and posted them to the forums quite a while back during a discussion about snorkels. Here are the values I came up with:
Type VIIB/C – 12m
Type IXB/C – 14m
Type IXD2 – 15m
Type XXI – 16.5
Your submarine will dive to those depths when you press the ; button for snorkel depth.
· SH3_Mod_CrewCheers_German
I don't remember exactly where this mod came from. In the stock SHIII, the German voices didn't have a cheer when you hit or sink a ship. This enables a cheer for the German voices.
· SensorPak
This is a mod that was done by Jungman about the time we were discussing the snorkel depths. I will include the readmes that go into more detail.
· Fixed C-Class No DC Racks
This fix was taken from the Improved Convoys mod. It gives the C-Class destroyer depth charge racks in 1939.
· Fixed Wellington No Radar Bug
This fix was found by Jungman if I remember right. It gives the Wellington a radar that was left out by the devs. From June 1, 1944 on, the Wellington has no radar! This fix added an entry to the aircraft's SNS file.
· Changed Key Configs with SetKey1_11 – TCx1 = Enter; Fire Torpedo = Ctrl + Enter
I used the SetKey utility to change the key configurations. This edits the commands_en.cfg file. This resolves the frustrating incident of accidentally firing torpedoes. To fire a torpedo, the button combo is now Ctrl + Enter. You now use the Enter button to return the time compression to 1.
· UboatReflections_v2.0_cablefix
This fixes reflection issues with the various submarines. Conning towers, periscopes, snorkels, etc. now reflect on the water. This also resolves issues with cables on some subs that are out of place.
· CAs_UBoat_Instrument_Patch1.0
This is a relatively new mod released by Captain America. It fixes issues with various gauges in the subs.
· Atmosphere_Mod_8_Km_version_2[0]LIGHT
The atmosphere mod changes things like the sky dome in the game world. It removes the weird "wormhole" in the stock SHIII sky. The wormhole was that distortion in the sky when you would look up when it is cloudy. This also changes the water color and density in the full mod. Being this little pack is for stock SHIII, the stock water color and clarity were retained. This was the 8km version used. I guess some video cards suffered frame rate loss with the 16km version. This also lightens up the night sky very slightly.
· 8km_underwater_CLEAR_scene
This used the scene.dat to give the water it's normal clarity.
· Less_air_patrols_for_1.4
I don't remember where I got this mod from. It was created shortly after patch 1.4b was released. Patch 1.4b raised the number if aircraft encounters considerably. This mod simply takes those values back to patch 1.3 levels.
· Fixed Subnet Screech Sound
I'm sure anyone who has been around SHIII for a while will have encountered that horrible screeching sound when in the proximity of subnets. This is simply a sound file taken from Rubini's Harbor Traffic mod to resolve this issue. This is a hard coded issue and this fix lowers the volume of the Collision_AntiSubmarineNet_int sound file. Alternatively, you can delete the sound file completely if you wish.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I cannot include this with this pack, but I would recommend removing the intro movies when starting SHIII. It gets kind of old having to bypass them all the time. To remove them go to your SHIII data folder. Go to Movies/Intro and then delete the two movie files.
