Why don't you provide more info so people here can give you some proper feedback? ;) I'm not quite sure what you have in mind.

 Shame on you SD, not knowing immediately that GM refers to 'Marbeled Murrelets'.

May I refer you to articles on the matter at MOSS -

Item 17 Zach Peery - 'Ecology and Conservation of Marbeled Murrelets'

See also -'The role of trophic interactions between fishes, sea urchins and algae
in the northwest Mediterranean rocky infralittoral' :-j

But, please forgive me, Gunnersmate I do not mean to be rude - you have given the clue in your subject title.

I suppose you mean by MOSS a freestanding mobile sub simulator booth,a concept like ones used for training pilots ?

I would be surprised if a navy has'nt constructed a simulator for training sub crews - but then perhaps it is
more cost effective to sit 'em in front of PCs and run DW ! :yep: ;)

OK. Forgive me for my oversight. :-j

To help clarifying : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_submarine_simulator

The mobile submarine simulator (MOSS) is a sonar decoy used by submarines of the United States Navy. It is a 21-inch torpedo, without an explosive warhead, but able to generate a strong sound signature recorded to be extremely similar to that of the launching submarine.

The MOSS first entered service in 1976 and has been deployed on all American ballistic missile submarines since the 1980s. It has been progressively improved through its service life; an extended-range variant is known as the LEMOSS -- the long-endurance mobile submarine simulator.

Till I actually searched for it on Google I thought this was an invention of Tom Clancy from his Game/Book SSN ... seems this is not the case. Why wasn't it included ... no idea ... should it ? I don't think so ...

The MOSS is a MK37 torpedo that has been modified by replacing the sonar and Torpex packages with a sonar transducer that emits certain sounds depending on launching platform i.e. a 688 will emit 688 NB and a 726 will emit 726 NB. I dont have any programming experience but I think this would be any easy mod to do. Take a UUV and alter the sound profile and take out the sonar.

Well this is a very sensitive area - I posted a link in 'Bilge' to chinfo.nav.mil which had an article on
a wide range of 'potential' future applications for a new breed of UUVs.
Broadly - Surveillance, relay, deception etc.........

It has been withdrawn and I have lost the copy ! ;)

But not before sending one to LW to trigger his imagination - he promised to eat it . :D

According to the latest edition of Ships and Aircraft of the US Fleet, all MOSS's have been taken out of service-budget cuts and age. :nope:

Well all FFG-7's no longer have MK 13 launchers   :damn:
and have never carried MH-60's
and I do not believe they ever had MK50 torps

Not only that the Virginia class SSNs are just a creation of some DOD guy with Photoshop!
