View Full Version : Making the OBS and ATT Scopes diffrent ... how do you do it?

I am not very comfortable with making changes to some of the files in SH 3 but I was hoping that someone could sort of make a walk through of how you would have the texture (or picture) for the OBS scope be diffrent from the Attack scope?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also ... how do you safely edit the red mask for a scope?
Finally .... if I were to remove the firing buttons for the torpedos from the obs scope, would that be correct? I assume by their name and implied nature, they were only used for observation and visual placement for navagation. I may be wrong about that though.
Thanks in advance for your responses.

I think they are linked by the same texture and can't be changed to look different from one another. Alot of the textures are reused for alot of things in order to keep the installation and storage on your harddrive as small as possible.
The file below is a new version of the Bordinstrumented scope and uzo for low contrast (at night)....so it is the best thing to look at if you want to edit the red mask for a scope. you can look at this package to see what makes up the textures for both the periscopes as well as the UZO....as far as editing use photoshop...or a targa viewer if you just want to look at the textures.

TG, from what you are saying on contrast, does it make objects easier to see thru the scope at night?

yes, its the red mask layer for at night....this file changes that. It makes the colors around the telescope darker so you can see clearer into the night. If you use the normal bordinstrumente scope you get alot of bright silver etc around sides that makes it impossible for your eyes to adjust....so this makes the night time red light or mask be more subtle and dark so you can see out into the night without being blinded. But these are only the textures for the night scope and not the day (which is included in bordinstrumente v1.0. ) So if you install them your night time scope will look different then your default daytime one.

I made Obs periscope to have a diferent background than the attack one, to quickly know at wich one are you.
Plus i enlarge the viewfinder and edit the red mask.
You have there a night mask for UZO too.
It adds a giant periscope bearing strip, with a Vernier second strip to be able to read 1/10 of degrees.
I hope you can use it as guide, we wait for your job..... :up:
Plus this days is there an amazing job from FLB, look for it.

To just change alternative texture for observation periscope:
1) prepare new texture (begin with sh3Folder\data\Menu\Gui\Periscope.tga), name it say, PeriscopeObs.tga, and copy it into sh3Folder\data\Menu\Gui\
2) Open sh3Folder\data\Menu\menu_1024_768.ini and find section
[G2B I130]
Name=Background
Type=1030;Static bmp
ItemID=0x2B000001
ParentID=0x2B000000
Pos=0,768,1024,768
Color=0xFFFFFFFF
Materials=1
Display=2;Linear
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/Periscope.tga
Crop 0=0,0,1,0.75
MatFlags=0x21
TexFmt=0x9
and replace "Pericope.tga" to whatever new texture name, so in this case:
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/PeriscopeObs.tga
