Ever since installing SH3 Cmndr 2.4 I have been getting the occasional ctd when saving and exiting a game. after naming and saving the game, overwriting existing save it will CTD.The career and info is saved properly(at least it reloads and plays as normal). Now, after completing a patrol, when i tried to access patrol history from within the game, repeated CTD. I have installed the updated Cmndr.exe for use with SH3Gen. Any ideas. If I have to uninstall/reinstall SH3Cmndr, which files do I save so I do not lose my current patrol info if any?

Could this be related to SH3Gen? SH3Cmdr doesn't do anything that could cause CTDs when accessing the Patrol History (or really anything for that matter - it's rather innocuous). Perhaps send GlobalExplorer and/or me the relevant patrol Log_x.cfg file and we can have a look.

BTW installing/uninstalling SH3Cmdr will not affect your game saves.

Perhaps the patrol log CTD is SH3Gen related, the game saving CTD started after the upgrade from Cmndr 2.3 to 2.4, no SH3Gen at that point. Will try to reinstall Cmndr and see if that fixes the problem.

After reinstall of Cmndr2.4 no change. The problem could still be SH3Gen related? Reloaded a saved game and completed the patrol. Upon "Docking at Wilhelmshaven" I get a CTD. The patrol has ended, career info saved and updated, now in port before next patrol. All is functioning normally, accept from the in game selection of " view patrol history and view patrol log", that causes CTD. I wll send the log file for you to look over. Thanks for the help....where should I send the file?

This could be Sh3Gen related. Check your PM. Which version of Sh3Gen?

Hm, checked those files you sent me and there is nothing wrong with them. I inserted them into another savegame and they showed up fine.

Having said that the Logfiles are ok - which are the only files that Sh3Gen changes - I don't believe this is because you are using it. The problem must be those CTD's while saving - you said they happened before you installed Sh3Gen - or what is causing them.

Those are the only files that Sh3 loads when you are in port:

Careers.cfg
Careers_0.cfg
Crew_Career_00.cfg
Crew_Career_0.cfg
Crew_Career_10.cfg
Log_0.cfg
Patrols.cfg
Patrols_0.cfg

(there exists a set of these files for every patrol you finished)

If one of them is not saved correctly because of the CTD, that might be the reason for subsequent crashes.

So if you would zip and send me all those files (but not the ones in the subfolders as they are the actual savegames), I could test if I can reproduce the error while in port.

I would try to load one of your savegames but that would probably crash because of incompatible campaign data, so I can't reproduce your problem there.

But as I said, the output that was generated with Sh3Gen seems to be ok, so this should not be the reason.

Well, just to cover all bases I have reviewed the SH3Cmdr changes in R2.4. The only change that *may* affect the game is that now the correct U-boat availability dates is a selectable option, *OFF* by default, whereby with previous versions it was *ON* by default. I doubt that's the problem (otherwise lots of other users would have commented), but you may want to ensure the option is checked and try again. All other changes were just to the SH3Cmdr interface and don't even affect SH3 itself. From what I've read so far I'd be surprised if your problem is related to SH3Cmdr or SH3Gen. Have you recently installed any other mods at all?

What happens if you try with an earlier patrol (copy your campaign first or you'll lose the later patrols)? If you can reload an earlier save game and play through and all is OK, then it's perhaps something quirky with that other one patrol, perhaps as GE suggested, maybe it's a corrupt save file that is "carried through". I wouldn't even try to guess - I'd cut my losses and replay it from scratch.

I did revert to the save prior to the end of patrol CTD and the problem happened again. Could have been info stored in that save? I sent GlobalExplorer the game folder so he can go through it. Thinking back, i did a manual delete of Cmndr2.3, as i did not have anyway to uninstall it either by exe or from within ControlPanel. Add/Remove programs could not remove it??? Perhaps something was not removed that needed to be before 2.4 was installed.? The CTD's that had been occuring at every game save stopped for this 3rd patrol and did not happen again until the end of patrol.

I have added the NYGM mods, but prior to beginningthis 3rd patrol, no CTD's until completion of patrol," Dock at wilhelmshaven" option selected. Saving the game just prior to docking( in the port of Wilhelm.) saves fine.

Since everythin other than viewing the patrol history/log from within SH3 works fine( i can access this info through Cmndr) I am just going to proceed with patrol 4 and see waht happens. If I get CTD's on the next save routine then I will may have to begin again.

I checked your files and got the crash too. Bit when I compared them to some of my own saves I could not find anything wrong with the files. My guess is that something is missing because of the CTD.

Maybe anyone with a better knowledge of these files could help?

Strange :hmm: hopefully a new patrol will solve the crashes.

Looking back over my JSGME I remembered that I updated my scr file to the HT Heavy SCR. Most of my ctd while saving have come while in or near port. I reverted back to the default HT SCR, we shall see where this goes.
