View Full Version : Fubar IXB mod and Radar-Extend Mod clash?

I really want to use Fubar's IXB skin, but when JSGME tries to install, it says it will over-write the Sensors.dat file, included with the 'Radar Detection Extended Mod'

Is there any way to install IXB skin, and still keep the radar-mod?

Hi Average Joe

inside the sensors.dat file is a file called mask_type9 this file is
for the snorkel cover on the main deck.
What you can do is go to the sticky near the top of this page
its called List of modifs mods tools etc, then go to the section
called Tools to modify in game presets and down load the little
program called Chessmaster 10 DAT textures extractor,
then read the instructions.
Now with this tool you can extract from my sensors.dat file the file
called mask_type9 and then place it in your other sensor.dat file
aslong as you follow the chessmaster instuctions its easy.

If you are useing one of the mod anabler programs deactivate
the mod which use's the sensor file before you change it.

All my files in my skins are just texture files they dont change
anyother aspect of the game so there should be no problems
doing this.

Hope this helps

PS this is how other people get round these sort of problems

Thanks for the help Fubar.

Tried the .dat extract tool you mentioned, it works fine. I was able to place your IXB 'mask_type9.tga' file inside the other mod; Radar-Extend's 'Sensors.dat' file.

I'm still wondering, if I use JSGME to apply the Extended-Radar mod, then apply your IXB skin, it still says I'm overwriting the Extended-Radar mod's 'Sensors.dat' file, which contains several other files.

I looked at both sensor.dat files. The only thing that seemed different (file-size wise) was your 'mask_type9.tga' file.

If I overwrite the Extended-Radar 'sensor.dat' file with your IXB skin (using JSGME), does it cause any harm to either mod?

It seems I must have messed up something, as I see the bridge dial-compass not in the correct place, as shown here:

p.s. Btw it looks like I could just extract the IXB .tga files and place them in the 'Texture' folder, but then they could interupt/overwrite other sub-skins.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: oops, looks like the Stock-skin IXB has the same problem on the Bridge(?). Pic below:

Hi again Average joe

if you have placed my mask_type9 file into your modded sensor.dat
file then you can throw my sensor file in the bin as you dont need my sensor.dat file anymore this will sort the overwrite problem.

just so you know JSGME doesn't really overwrite files it replaces
them and makes a backup copy of your original files, in side your
mods folder is a folder called back up folder. so it should not really
damage any files if you overwrite them, However this is not a good
idea because as you no this will change the mod that is being overwriten.

That dial issue is odd I've seen this before but dont know what
causes it sorry, it happens sometimes with other dials in the conning tower.
There was a post about this way back in this forum.

If you wish to place the Mask_type9 file in the texture folder you can but it will also apear if you use a IXC type uboat. If your also
useing my skins for this boat then it will not mater because
my type IXB and IXC use the same file, However if your useing
another skin thats another story.

Good luck

Okay thanks Fubar.

I'll extract and move your IXB mask_type9 file into the sensors.dat file of 'Extended Radar' mod, then remove the entire 'sensors.dat' file from your IXB skin. That should work great!

I am using your VII-C, IXB and XXI skins, so will forget about placing .tga files in the 'Texture' folder.

There's another sensors.dat file with the 'cablefix' mod (fixes cables on the VIIC I think), which also interferes when applied with JSGME. Sounds like I can do the same thing with this mod too.

This is something like my 10th campaign(?), and I don't remember ever using the IXB sub 'til now. The bridge-dial could have been like that from the very beginning.
I have a 100% stock (compressed) backup of SH3, and can check the bridge-dial from there.

Thanks again!
