Ok, this may just be a 'brain fart', but I'm having a problem trying to download files with the "7z" extension. Every time I left click on the file name (I'm trying to get one of the harbor traffic files) my computer opens it in Netscape and begins to fill the screen with machine language. This doesn't happen with zip files. If it's a zip file, it opens up the download prompt and lets me save it to disk. But not 7z. I know (or I think) it's a simple matter of telling the computer what to do with this, so far, strange extension. But I'm at a loss as to where this setting is. Duh!!! :damn: :damn: :damn:
Any suggestions? I've already got the program to un-compress these files, but I have to get the files saved somewhere to uncompress.

Right click on the file link and select SAVE TARGET AS...........

Right clicking does absolutely nothing. That was my first try.
Install Mozilla Firefox! It's the best internet browser available, and it's FREE!

In fact, I just moved over to my wife's computer and tried downloading from there (just in case her machine is configured somehow differently than mine) and the problem is the same. I rebooted mine just in case. No difference.
Wuzzzup?

At least try Mozilla Firefox! I guarantee you it's completely virus free and safe to use.

Well, I appreciate the suggestion (to install a different browser) but I'm not going to change my whole life just to download a file. I've not had any problems with Netscape ever (except when I have to download something 'serious' from Microsoft). I'm comfortable with it and it works - for me.
It just doesn't work for 7z (and I'm not sure that's the problem anyway). :dead:

Ok, just tell me the mods you want and i'll try to repack them to .zip and upload them for you!

Hey, cool, CV-707.
The one I was trying to get was "Harbour_Traffic_147_standalone.7z". I'm assuming that will work even though I'm not using Rub or Iub (taking the "standalone' term at face value).
Beyond that, I hadn't given it much thought. I was going to try some, one at a time.
Again, thanks for the offer!

:o
You right-clicked on the link and a menu didn't show up?
:o
What if you hold down the SHIFT key while right clicking on the link? Should make no difference but what the heck! :88)
It'll take about 1/2 hour more.

Didn't think of that. So I tried it. Holding down the SHIFT key and right clicking did nothing. Left clicking brought up the download box but the file was called "index". I tried another file and SHIFT right clicked and got the same "index" name, so it's not downloading any files. I'm doing this at the "http://www.u-boot.realsimulation.com/" site. Suppose there's any difference if I try to download it somewhere else? I'll try that.
Grrrrrrr :damn:

Holy crap, CV-707! Is that to convert or upload to me? Do you need my email address or can you go through the site?

Great! Says I've got about 12 minutes to go. I sure hope after all this "farting around" I like this mod
Thanks again.

Now, is this one of those files that should only be installed when I'm in port, or can I fire this up anytime? I'm currently at sea on a mission.

Harbor Traffic mod changes game configuration files. Therefore, it should only be installed when you're docked at base or you should revert back to an IN BASE BEFORE MISSION savepoint the next time you return to your career.

Thanks Avon.
Now, I've got my 'fair haired' boys out on patrol right now. What if I 'invented' a new guy just to install the mod. Would that effect the 'real' career guy, or just the 'throw away' captain?
Probably should just get it ready in the mod installer and wait until (and if) I get back to port huh... :hmm:
Maybe I should go back to Checkers....
Just a bit of advice KT... never ever install any mod while at sea. Always do it while docked in port... just to be safe. ;)
I've found that out the hard way on some mods I thought would be ok to install while at sea. Result, I lost a great career that was in March of 44 just from being in a hurry.

Listen to Avon and GT182. Installing a mod like that will affect ALL your kapitans. If any one of them is at sea it will wreck his patrol.
I have four careers going right now (one at a time of course), so I know whereof I speak. :hulk:

Wuzzzup?
1. Install 7zip
2. Open 7zip File Manager
3. Go to Tools --> Options
4. Select (chackbox) Associate extension 7z with plugin 7-zip
5. Apply
6. File --> Exit
7. Reboot (probably this is not required but re-boot anyway :88) )
8. Install Firefox

Thanks VonHelsching, I like the sound of that. I'll do it (all except that last one about Firefox - I'm sticking to Netscape - and that's that.. :x)
