Sehr Geehrt Kameraden!

Are you the guys who could put the Kaiser Wilhelm Kanal into SH III? It seems to me to have been a real oversight on the part of the creators to have left it out. Even a straight narrow channel from Kiel to the mouth of the Elbe would do.

On the matter of channels, is it possible to include Holm Sound or Water Sound and Hunda Sound at Scapa Flow? The U-47 scenario is not possible historically without a passage somewhere between Mainland Island, Burray Island and Sth Ronaldsay Island.

Whilst on topography, is it possible to add the KM and U-boat memorials at Laboe and Möltenort to the East side of Kieler Förde? That would make a nice touch when leaving or coming back to Kiel.

Schönen Dank!

You know, I don't think it is practical given that it would require a 3-D modeller to do some custom work and quite a bit of time to build such a thing...

... but it is a WONDERFUL idea. It is my own sense of history and recognition of the sacrifices of brave people on both sides that keeps me working on this game.

I have an idea on how a compromise in-game could be reached.

Unfortunately... you'll have to check back late next month.

I will incorporate the idea into somethink verrry interestink mein freund!

I read that this canal was not used that much by u- boats after Wesserabung because the Danish Resistance could count u-boats comming and going from base and leak the info to the British. :-?

Thanks for the info on the Kanal guys!

I had a feeling that it would require some serious programming skills to achieve same. When it comes to PC's I am lost when it comes to figuring out how they work. I can drive 'em but can't change the spare wheel. (I mean, I have no idea how I got "Bilge Rat" and the icon to the left of my messages.)

I know I have read about boats transitting, and from memory (which ain't that good in this old Vietnam vet) it seemed to be fairly frequent. But that is just my reading of it without considering the problem raised.

Schönen Dank!

Then again I faintly remember reading that they started being escorted by flak barges, or was that the Bay of Biscay? I need to find that book again...

But you can see the problem imposed especially as allied air power increased...one little covert radio transmission and two hours latter bomb or rocket laden attack aircraft fly straight up the canal and catch a u-boat unalbe to dive or even manuever very well....
But also I believe this was more of a precieved threat. I've never heard of any u-boats sunk in the canal. Has anyone? :hmm:

just a thought, would it be possible to set up a new harbor at the entrance of the canal area you mentioned, like the new bases in Spain? but set the repsawn point from that base (when you re-enter the game) at the other end of the canal with say a loss of 1 days? this would allow subs from Kiel to make the JUMP to the north sea without having to pass the islands of the Baltic. :hmm:

i suppose you'd need another harbor point at the North Sea side to warp your boat back to the Baltic side.

IF this is possible it might be used as the missing Scapa Flow NE entrance, but only if the docking point can be created there without docks. this would allow U-boats to enter Scapa from the proper location. And since the Brits later blocked this entrance the docking-warp points could be set to vanish sometime in 41.

I think this is a very good idea!
