Are UUV useful as torpedo decoys? I'm just curious to if they work and if anyone has tried it.
And on a related note... shouldn't the Akula be able to lauch UUV from its external tubes, especially since the USNI database says they were designed from mobile torp decoys.... don't make sense that SCS made them weapon tubes without UUV capability.
no, they are not working as decoy. And much to costly. :yep:

You cannot use external tubes for UUVs, as external tubes cannot use wires.

LT appocolypse i fooled with a UUV i fired it and set it to shallow to cavitate, at a certain depth and distance then went in another direction.
he said over chat "i got you" and shortly after that i heard "torpedo in water" well he had a nice track on the UUV but still didnt find me for at least another hour
got sunk though dam 688i he was using a seawolf :damn:

There are no wires for the external tubes. I always use them for non-wired guided ordinance, depending on the mission.

But does anyone read in the USNI database where is says that these external tubes were supposedly designed for torpedo decoys right? If that's the case then should there be *something* decoyish to load into the tube?
Am I mistaken to think that fully powered decoys are a reality to modern sub tatics?
