View Full Version : Anyone ever figure out how to nerf the damn wind?

I dunno about anyone else, but im a little sick and tired of constant, nearly non stop, 90% of my gameplay being in 15 knot winds. And i mean almost always 15 knot winds.
15 knot winds and light fog with no rain
15 knot winds with heavy fog and no rain
15 knot winds with light fog and light rain
15 knot winds with heavy fog and heavy rain.
Oh sure everything else varies, but NOT THE DAMN WIND!
Occasionally.. once in a great long while, i'll acutally have some conditions OTHER then 15 knot winds. but 90% of the time no.
Anyone figure out how to adjust this? My assumption is the scene.dat file, but i havent figured anythign out except to reduce the wave height from the constant damn winds :x

Haven't fooled with it, but my best guesses are:
In scene.dat in the Mini Tweaker I found two categories with suspicious values-
Category Wind-
WindSpeedChangeSpeed
WindHeadingChangeSpeed
Category Random Wind & Rain-
ChangeTimeMin
ChangeTimeMax
RandomWindSpeedVariationSpeed
RandomWindSpeedMax
Maybe some can have a go at this.

Yeah i was looking at those earlier. As soon as im done with current War patrol (made 3 night surface attacks on same convoy - 3 fish left, going home soon :D ), ill check it out.
Thse i dont think will help:
ChangeTimeMin
ChangeTimeMax
Im guessing that by messing with these you can change how often the weather shifts. Im guessing in theory you could have the weather change once a month, but if its already 15 winds and heavy rains, you may as well go home and skip that patrol.
These sound intresting:
WindSpeedChangeSpeed
WindHeadingChangeSpeed
These sound VERY intresting:
RandomWindSpeedVariationSpeed
RandomWindSpeedMax
ON a side note i think ive tried lowering the values of RandomWindSpeedMax
but doing so yielded me no results, maybe i didnt input correct values, but that variable reallly looks like it would be it

hmm on the otherhand suppose you can limit the max windspeed to say 7 knots. This isnt really a fix. The problem isnt 15 winds in themselves, the problem is how often the game uses 15 winds. (seemingly 90% of the time with me)
Maybe this is it?
RandomWindSpeedVariationSpeed

Interesting
Also i found that at the start of the campaign files there are values about the weather.
the same for the scr and rnd layers. :88)
I modified my campaign values because i had a very low weather randonmization with a lot of days with storms or sunny weather and calm weather during two weeks in all the way to my patrol grid in the middle of the atlantic :shifty: and no partial clouds.or very rare.
I noticied a more random weather now , at least in my system works well :hmm:
for example:
18:00 calm waters,clear
8:00 partial clouds, no wind
10:00 cloudy, lightings, wind 15 ms
but could be interesting more testing to confirm the ressults ...
Note that the single missions had a very different values that the stock campaign
(academy convoy attack values, now in my patrol)
*Fog=0 (0,1,2,3)
FogRand=0
*Clouds=1 (0,1,2)
CloudsRand=1
*Precip=0 (0,1,2)
PrecipRand=0
*WindHeading=95 (o to 360º)
*WindSpeed=2.000000 (0 to 15.000000 knts)
WindRand=1
WeatherRndInterval=2 (in hours, minimum 2 to 96 h)
SeaType=0

I would like to have more partial clouds because if you look outside, that is the most common sky of the three types.

Right! I can't remember since when but for a long time I nearly only see no-cloud or overcast, nothing in between. No longer the beautiful sunset. Where'd clouds go?
I´d like to see more the partial clouds too! Sunsets, look much better with partial clouds. And I`m tired of the clear skies all the time....
