View Full Version : RUb 1.45 and crewmen's uniforms and hair color
Hi Folks,
I have noticed that RUb 1.45 changes the stock uniforms and hair color of the crew members. While I like the uniform changes, I do wish to have the blond hair back on the crewmen. :stare: I am not sure what stock files to add back to get just the hair color back. Can someone help me? Is it the files in crew cfg?
Thanks, :D

Thanks for your response! I tried this, but it does not seem to change the hair color back. :damn: I copied over all of the original files in the head subdirectories, but the RUb changes were not reversed. There must be some other files that Beery changed...perhaps related to the uniforms?

Can someone help with this....please? :-?
Thanks! :)

If you first disable RUb with JSGME, then go in to RUb folder (in MODS folder) and delete RUb/data/Crew/head folder, then enable RUb with JSGME, now you should have stock heads with other crew details from RUb. I hope it works.
Another tip is that you try another crew mod, i.e Pascals crew. Then delete the whole crew folder in RUb before you install it and after that, install some other crew mod.
You can find other crew mods at Uboot real simulation.com http://www.mpgtext.net/u-boot/ Site with SH 3 downloads is down for the moment, but should be up soon I guess
Use JSGME
Good luck

I don't even have a head folder with RUB 1.45 so I don't think that is the problem.
I believe the problem lies within the crew_config_xx_1.cfg files under the \data\cfg folder
There is a variable called HeadIdx which stores a value that determines which head a crew member gets. Values are 0-4 and I have noticed that the value of 4 is non-existent in the RUB and SH3 Commander .cfg files (However I only checked the cfg files for the VII)
Also, if your using SH3 Commander and choose to "use realistic crew configurations", it uses RUB's .cfg files that come bundled with it.
However, it is possible to change some of the HeadIdx values for your current campaign. Just open up the crew_config_x.cfg file for your latest save (where x is the name of the save) and modify some of their values.
Just browse to your career folder within the SH3 folder under My Documents. The cfg files will be there.
Check out this thread for additional info about these cfg files:

Yes, this is the cause. But please note that the crew_config_xx_1.cfg files only relate to careers started in 1939 and 1940. Any careers started in 1941 to 1943 will use crew_config_xx_2.cfg (41/42) or crew_config_xx_3.cfg (43), which, even in the stock SH3, do not include a HeadIdx=4 either. Also note that officer HeadIdx values are 0 to 2 only.
I will re-add some HeadIdx=4 into the SH3Cmdr files. EDIT: **I've actually totally revamped this aspect of the SH3Cmdr crew files - I've added more variance to the voices used by each crewman as well as more variance to the complexion used by each crewman.**
Also, if your using SH3 Commander and choose to "use realistic crew configurations", it uses RUB's .cfg files that come bundled with it.
Actually, the files were created by Beery and I for SH3Cmdr first, then found their way into RUb. They provide a mix of ranks and quals much more commensurate with actual U-boat crews, but obviously lacking in blonde haired men...

Thanks JScones, I was wondering what those ones did.
