Hi all - I've been away for a while.

:hmm:

I'm finally upgrading my computer and am after advice as to what mods are highly recommended. I'm particularly interested in anything that makes the ability of escorts to locate, maintain contact and destroy the U-boat as realistic as possible in synch with the progress of the war (i.e. steadily improving from '39 - mid '43, after which it's essentially a horror show....).

Eye candy is good but not essential.

Not too worried about the sound effects aspects.

All sensible comments are welcome. I appreciate this has been asked before, but would really appreciate it if people would give their recommendations based on experiences post 1.4b

Thanks in advance!

Oh....
In case the actual computer spec makes a difference as to what mods are advisable, here's what I'll have (bought myself a present for the season):

Athlon FX-57 (San Diego core)
RADEON X1800 XT (512MB DDR3)
2 x 1024MB RAM Dual Channel DDR PC3200 (400 MHz)
Western Digital Raptor 74GB HD 10,000 rpm
SB Audigy 2 ZS 7.1

The RUb Mod leans more to realism that the IUb Mod.

Very happy with RUb. Just came out of a 2-hour realtime cat and mouse evasion of depth charges.

All my installed mods are listed toward the bottom of my SH3 FAQ page (http://www.theavonlady.org/thesh3faq/).

Your Sys.should develop the game, and all mods, you desire.I like IUB. it contains mods from RUB.and then some/many others.installed properly,w/JSGME,you can choose which are enabled & disable that witch you dislike.IMHO. :lost:

That´s right, but IUb has an optional "RealUBoatDefaults" folder, when you install it´s just like RUb, plus tons of other enhancements.

74GB is the largest 10,000 rpm drive made at present. I've had a 30GB drive since Aug 2000 and never managed to have more than 19GB on it, so I figure I'd rather the performance than get some massive drive I'll never use (and would slow most systems if you were to come even close to filling them, such as a 160GB drive....).

That's just my view, however.

Unfortunately, it didn't get here before Christmas, so now I've got to wait until 2nd week of January!!! :damn: :damn: :damn:
