View Full Version : A (really weird) wolfpack emulation idea...

Alright, I'll make this quick so you can call me crazy right away.

Since we can't have real functional AI subs that will work as they should in campaign, I think most of us would be quite content if something in the convoy blew up at night - and better yet, blew up after you reported contact by radio.

Idea: create an invisible, silent, undetectable air unit (that is, neither you nor enemy units would actually be able to detect it) and attach it to friendly "air bases" out in the atlantic, making it "bomb" enemy convoys on occasion. We all know that radio reports would actually increase chances of such attack.

Possible? I think it might be worth a try... :hmm:

Sound good imho and limiting the plane to carry only two DCs it would be not overpowered too.

even madder might be to use those dolphins some one found as "free range" torpedos

It's easily possible to change the loadouts. Experimenting would likely give the best results; I was personally thinking more along the lines of 500kg bombs (which are pretty comparable to a torpedo). :hmm:

The air strike system lends itself very nicely to this, since it lets you control both the coverage area and probability very accurately and broadly.

But they don't blow up! :rotfl:

It would be great if the game could create message that you could receive like "U-557 attacking convoy HX-43" and all that stuff so that you'd know if you were helping a pack.

Thats no problem if u take convois that are not random . i did such a thing when i created PQ 17 for a futur HT release.

True, but I'm talking about things that are far from scripted (like the hugely-randomized Improved Convoys routes.

Has anyone thought about this?

Here's an enhanced version of this: not only use an invisible air unit, but actually take one of Sergbuto's AI uboats and attach an air group to it (which has recently been proven possible). So that you would not only see attacks, but have a chance of meeting the friendly u-boat somewhere in the general vicinity, too :hmm:

Hey guys,

Please let that innocent dolphins in peace. Don't transform them in a torpedo! :D

Edit: By the way, I think that CCIP's suggestion is very good. We have wolfpacks on Uboat War mod. The news here will be the addtion of the invisible airplanes. Good!
