View Full Version : AI skill of IUB
In IUB mod, the new graphics are great. But one thing I dont care for is the downgrade of AI skill from elite to vetern. For me it is to easy to get away, once I had a DD right over top of me and nothing happened, did'nt even know I was there. I went into the old files (data/campaigns/campaign/campaign_scr.mis) and noticed under DD tribal #3 (for example) the crew rating was changed from a 1 to a 3 with the IUB mod. Is this the change from elite to vetern? I dont know I'm not that in depth with computers. If it is and I change all the units to crew rating number 1 will that get me the elite task force I'm looking for. Can anybody help? Thanks

A crew rating of "1" is actually a "recruits" level crew. For that particular vessel... its crew rating has actually been increased.
"2" is "Regular"
"3" is "Veteran"
"4" is "Elite"
"Elite" DD's are generally known for their rather un-realistic ability to kill your U-boat pratically every time... which is why elites have largely been reduced to veteran level.
Sooner or later you will still be fighting for the life of your boat.

I hope this helps. :ping:

Which year was it? The downgrade was mainly for ships that appeared between late 1943 and 1945. The late DD´s are still very good at Veteran level!
There are many possible reasons why the DD didn´t detect you, like running silent and/or deep...
It was January 1944, off the coast of Africa in a type ix. Came across a large convoy early in the mourning 0500. Sea state was high, winds blowning at 15kts. Sunk 3 ships imditately. Dived down to 70m. Escort came towards my position very fast ,ran right over top of me and kept on going. Back towards the sunken ship site as if to pick up survivors. Escort stayed in that general area, I did not even get a single sonar ping, got away without a scratch, and did a 2nd attack at convoy later on. I thought that in the later years of the war it was more difficult for u-boat captains to survive.

If you are right under the DD you are in their blind spot.
IUb uses Jungmans über DD fix in AI_sensors.dat. I would rather set back these values back to stock values instead of changing all entrys in Campain.RND.mis. :know:
Here are som lines from that readme:The minimum Sonar Range was changed from default zero to 200 meters.
The maximum Sonar Bearing angle was reduced from -+ 90 degrees bow, to 60 degrees...and further: The minimum sonar range of 200 m seems to help hide the
sub at depth better so you can sneak away slowly without being detected by the UberSeer
sonar.
In this file there is also Jungman's snorkel fix. I strongly recommend that you use it, so you need a stock 1.4 Ai_sensors.dat with only the snorkel fix.
I'll upload this file for you and you can replace the one from IUb.
Here is a DL link for Stock 1.4 über DD with Jungmans snorkel fix:http://rapidshare.de/files/7646704/AI_Sensors.rar.html
You have to replace this file with the one in the mod. It's in data\Library\"Ai_sensors.dat"
Just remember to take a back up from the original one.
Hope it works, Good luck

Yes, if I get my lazy arsche up and kick out another version with the blind spot reduced linearly from 200m start of war, to 0 at the end of war for the best sonar in the game. There are 7 sonar types for active use. Plus changes to the "angle" of detection as time goes on.
That would put the bite back into the late war DD sonar units. It was done for realism sake at 100% originally.

As to me, I like the way you did the über DD fix in Ai_sensors. You also have to have in mind when there are more than one DD, wich they often are, they work together in a coordinated way. In this situations they are absolutely deadly enough for me and also fully realistic to my mind.
I just thought this could help DC2Sal, and also easier done instead of change all entrys for crew skill in campaign.RND.mis file. :)
Thanks Rulle34, much appreciated can't wait to try this out.
