I`m using the great SH3 Cmdr ( Beery and Jones) and have 2 questions:

1) what do you think would be most realistic wave height setting ? I`m playing at 1.5x but wonder if it should be about 2x (although I guess majority of guys playing at 1.25...)

2) I`m no getting ship names in the captain`s/patrol log, which was supposed to be one of the new features of SH3 Cmdr...Why can it be ? Can HT 1.46 (which I`m using as well) messing up with this feature...?

thnx for your help

Well, as I've never used anything but 1.0x myself, I'll leave this for more learned players to comment on.

First thing is to select the option in SH3Cmdr. The update will then occur next time you run a Personnel File for the selected Commander. All existing patrol logs up to that point will be updated with real ship names.

Note that due to SH3 limitations specific ship names are not generated during patrols, they can only be generated *after* the patrol has been completed by creating a new (updated) Personnel File in SH3Cmdr.

I've been using The Big Wave mod since the beginning. IMO 2x is about as realistic as the game will allow (and even that is pretty wimpy) however using that setting you"ll find that running surfaced your engines will be constantly cutting out-the boat will think its submerged most of the times-very annoying.
Second issue is at 2x and in a bad storm the smaller ships will capsize from flooding. This has been solved to a certain degree but still happens.
I'm using 1.5x for awhile now as it gives a better overall balance.
Try them both and you decide what works best for you.

right, it must be said though that 1x and 1.25x is totally unrealistic....only yesterday with 1.5x waves at 15m/s wind it was something resembling a storm....of course targeting through the scope was extremely challenging as it was in RL....with 1x waves I was wandering why the crew was wearing the foul weather garment

I've always used the standard settings. In a storm (in-game) I've seen swells of 20 to 30 feet, which much bigger than anything I've seen in real life, and I've been at sea in a hurricane (Hurricane Georges), so I'm not sure what would be accomplished by a higher wave setting.

Targetting and firing torpedos at1X in a storm seems ridiculously easy to me....with 1.5x you periodically lose visibilty becuase of huge swells and it makes possible for kind of the Das Boot scene: "Verdammt ! Verdammt !"

Just finished some night shifts, so a little thick at the moment.

How does one alter the wave height?

It's a gameplay setting in the latest SH3Cmdr. It's based on TimeTraveller's "Big Wave" mods.

Thanks :)

Any problems if I alter this setting mid patrol?

LOL. Are you ever not mid-patrol? :rotfl:

I wouldn't think it would cause problems, but I haven't tested so can't say for sure.

I'm just a big kid. who loves to play

Well when you do SH3Cmdr X, with the SIM option for shore leave, getting drunk, brothels, etc. I'll spend as much time ashore.

Don't worry about the time compression for that part though. ;)

Cheers :()1:

Guess what? I'm not mid-patrol.
:D
Completed the rst of the patrol using the 1.25 wave option. Most of this patrol's weather has been 15mps, fog, rain (regardless of weather it states I had any), etc. Found the 1.25 option gave a good balance.
