I play with the Rub 1.44 and i installed sh3 commander but only for change the water transparency. i don´t use it for nothing more
The first patrol to Am19.. well ... lets go, a good patrol, :|\
the second patrol to the same grid ?? Am19 :shifty: , i went to the grid but is suspicious.
The third patrol to Am19 !! :nope: no way.
there is Some way to return to the random assigment ?? i don´t want to stay the whole war circling the same site. :dead:
I don´t want leave port until Bdu assigns a new grid for my boat.

It's AM14 for me, three patrols in a row.

You don't say whether you have changed the patrol grid at any time either within SH3Cmdr or by manual file editing.
A few people have raised this as an issue which is quite perplexing as all SH3Cmdr does is write the selected patrol grid to the career's Patrols_0.cfg file. It seems that perhaps SH3 has more of a vested interest in the assigned patrol grid than first thought.
Can you guys pls tell me what Flotilla you are in, what the current year and month is, what sub type you have, and whether you have manually changed the patrol grid at any time?

I have 2 careers going at present. One is in a IXB, around Feb42, and I have changed grids via Commander. In this patrol however, I still get random grid assignments.
The other career is in a VIIC, around the same time as best as I can recall. I have not changed grid assignments in this career and have been ordered to AM14 three patrols in a row.
I have no idea if this is a fluke or some anomoly with Commander (2.3 by the way) but it is no big deal either way to me. I'm so blown away by the program that even if this is a "bug," its one I can live with.
There are a lot of great mods and I use a few of them but SH3 Commander is the last one I would part with. No offense to any of the other mods, but Commander has added more enjoyment to this "game" than any of them. Many thanks to all involved.
Indeed, many thanks to all you modders, and everyone else here too. This is the most helpful forum I have ever encountered.
Cheers,
JBC
By the way, both careers are in the 7th Flotilla. I transfered my IXB there to get away from the long ride out of Lorient.

that is a bug in sh3 commander even if you dont use RUB, you can assing you own grid with sh3 commander( thats what I do after I get tired of going to the same grid 2-3 times in a row

And your proof of this claim is?

Well, that seems to rule SH3Cmdr out as the cause.
Interestingly, according to (both SH3's and RUb's) Flotilla.cfg, only twice, January 1941 and July 1944, is it possible to be allocated an AM14 grid reference in 7 Flotilla.

my proof of claim is I have had this happen to me 2-3 times where I got the same patroll grid. I have gotten it in previos campaigns also. Hasnt there been a topic like this before. Hasnt this topic also came up in the UBISOFT SH3 forum?

You see, the problem is, because of the way SH3Cmdr exposes SH3, it keeps getting the blame for what are at the end of the day SH3 "inconsistencies" (I won't call them bugs, because, after all, SH3Cmdr was not a thought when SH3 was being developed). SH3Cmdr is full of "bandaids" patching little SH3 nuances.
What I can guarantee though is that SH3Cmdr's simple act of writing a user entered patrol grid to a career file is not by itself a bug. The feature works. Tested. Proven. Plus, a) the problem does not occur evey time and b) it has occured in instances where the value has *not* been changed by SH3Cmdr. There is nothing else in SH3Cmdr that may impact on SH3's generation of patrol grids.
Now, as the problem appears to randomly occur, what this suggests to me is that either a) it is purely coincidental, b) perhaps SH3 places some relevance on the previous patrol grid when generating one for the next patrol or c) there is perhaps some other chain of events which is the cause and which is not obvious at the moment.
I don't know. What I do know is that I won't go jumping to conclusions until the facts are in. To that end, I need people experiencing the problem to be very descriptive in order for me to analyse. It's one thing to dismiss it as a bug, but it's another to investigate it and confirm for sure.
So, let's use this thread for users who are experiencing this problem to outline:
a) whether the affected career was started via SH3Cmdr. If so, what details were entered (year/month/Flotilla) when starting the career;
b) when the first patrol grid repeat occured - both patrol number and year/month. Also outline U-boat type and Flotilla at the time of repeat;
c) whether the patrol grid had been changed before this repeat, and if so whether the change was via SH3Cmdr or manual editing of Patrols_0.cfg;
d) whether the repeat occured closely after a change of Flotilla or U-boat type;
e) what main mods are installed (RUb etc);
f) anything else that you may think as relevant (ie you resumed from a save game beforehand, or you deleted save games by resuming from an earlier point in time beforehand, or you installed a specific mod beforehand, number days in base value etc).
I would also be keen to hear from players that have *never* had this problem despite changing patrol grids in SH3Cmdr or through manual Patrols_0.cfg file editing, or from players that have experienced this problem but *haven't* used SH3Cmdr. In both cases, again, an idea of major installed mods may help.

I have only had this problem once, but I know FOR SURE that it wasn't because of SH3Cmdr. SH3Cmdr doesn't alter how the game engine chooses the next patrol grid. It can only alter the current patrol grid.
There are only two consecutive months where the game can issue the same AM14 patrol grid. It happens in July and August 1944. As for AM19, there are a couple of instances where AM19 assignments are a couple of months apart, so that in 1st Flotilla if you go out on patrol in January 1942, then if the next patrol is in April, you could get the same patrol grid. The same thing happens in April and July 1944, again in 1st Flotilla. Same in January and April '42 in 7th Flotilla.
One thing is for sure, if you have days spent in base set to 1 (or a very low number) and you go out on patrol on the first of the month, then come back on the 14th, then go on patrol again and return on the 28th, you will have a very good chance of getting the exact same patrol grid three times in a row.

I've had up to 4 in a row (rub 1.44, sh3 commander 2, changed patrol grid manually). But I got back my random assignments by switching flotillas.

Are any of you guys who are experiencing this using HT or the milk cow mod by any chance?
If not, what mods are you using?

Assuming for the moment that everyone with this issue is using the Milk Cow mod, I'd say that's probably where the problem lies. The Milk Cow mod will almost certainly impact the way the patrol grid assignment changes (or in this case, the way it doesn't change). This is one reason why the milk cow mod is not used in RUb or SH3 Commander (even though, on the face of it, it's a positive improvement to the game). The fact is, the milk cow mod has a fundamental flaw, in that it is trying to accomplish something that the game simply isn't set up to do. The milk cow mod uses a 'work-around' solution which works, but which has some negative consequences in terms of the way the game records patrols.
The milk cow mod may be fun and popular, but in my view it causes subtle but significant problems with careers and can never be made to work seamlessly with the game.

Beery, you may have nailed it here. I am using IUB 1.02 at the moment and it does include HT and Milchcows, and I do have days in base set to 1. I have been extremely lucky of late, catching convoys on my way to AM14, using all my fish quickly then RTB.
Actually, it just occured to me that I never made it to AM14 on any of these patrols. I seem to remember the unmodded game I played many months ago would do this too. If I didn't reach my assigned grid, I would often get the same one next time.
I'm thinking as I write here so bear with me. In my case I believe it was a combination of not ever getting to my assigned grid and perhaps forgetting to cycle emblems or otherwise dally in port for the proper time.
I didn't mean to contribute to a witch hunt, l was just trying to be helpful. I wasn't trying to accuse anyone's mods of anything, I haven't done that in months. Not since I wrongly speculated that Sailor Steve's sound mod was causing my CTDs. It wasn't, and I apologized for that. Not that I ever intended to be accusatory in the first place, I'm constantly grateful to all you guys for your work and your help. Bitching about anything would be pretty childish IMO.
My problem is that I am down to a very few functioning brain cells and my memory isn't what it used to be. Hey, can you guys come up with another fatigue model? One for my headpiece, compartment efficiency is getting pretty low up there. :-?
Cheers,
JBC

I don't think anyone here is accusing SH3 Commander. You guys are just wondering where the problem could be coming from. It's only natural to assume that what causes it is the biggest, most game-changing mod. I don't take such things personally, but it's important for the authors of the mod to make clear why we think SH3 Commander probably isn't to blame for it. This could be seen as us being defensive, but what it is is just us doing what we have to do - removing speculation from the issue so that we can talk about all possibilities and thereby get to specifics.
A big problem is that a lot of people who sit on the fence about mods read threads like this and get the impression that all mods are bug-ridden abortions. It's no one's fault that they get this mistaken impression. It's just the nature of the beast. When people are using 10+ different mods in their game, weirdness is likely to happen. Such weirdness may not even be caused by any single mod - it may be a combination of mods that causes it. In any case, when multiple mods are in use, any problems become harder and harder to pin down. This is why mods like RUb and IUb exist - to try to reduce the problem of combining mods. Unfortunately, however big and inclusive a major mod is, it still doesn't stop folks from adding even more mods to the mix.

sh3 commander last version installed over the previous version
my base is wilhelmshaven , started at october 1939 with two patrols in a VII boat.
in the two patrols, always i reach the grid destination and stay during 24 hour before return to base.
sorry by the tittle of the post, because is not sure that is a mod bug, Rub or sh3 commander :88) :oops:
perhaps a incompatibility , a bad instalation or something. :hmm:

I have recently installed SH3 Commmander and RUB 1.45 using the JSGME application....I haven`t tweeked anything to speak of yet but now I`ll be watching the grid assignment generation closely...I find the installed Mods really great and apppreciate the effort.
Thank You all... :up:
