View Full Version : Screen flicker

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I have been away awhile, and after going through a dozen pages have seen no other posts on the topic...

I have just installed DW + patch 1.01.

I have a really annoying screen flicker that makes the screen unwatchable. I have a 6600GT 256MB with latest drivers.

Anybody any ideas?

Very frustrating...I preordered the game, but found I could not run the sim because of massive mouse lag etc. I believed at the time was driven by me running it under Win98SE (on an old rig that was not worth installing XP on). So...a year later I build myself a new rig, good processor, plenty of RAM, and XP. And it is still unplayable.

Many thanks!

The two biggest issues that bring about the screen flicker is A. Background programs running. B. Not running DW in windowed mode.

Your solution for A will be running End It All (http://www.docsdownloads.com/Tier1/enditall.htm) to cancel all programs and processes that are not needed.

Screen flickering is usually the result of some program you have running in the background trying to steal the screen away from DW, and then DW stealing it back. "mmtask" is one of the principal offenders. Try checking for this or other programs running in the background that don't need to be.

Running the game in windowed mode should make a huge difference.

Wow!

That was quick.

I'll give Enditall a try. Should have thought of that first before posting. I'll also play with the windowed mode.

Hartford688,

You'll find that we here will provide help with any issues as long as you don't flame the game...and even then, we'll still help...granted, with a few shots of our own thrown in. :rotfl: ;)

as long as you don't flame the game

Not that anyone would do that...

The internet, and forums in particular, is a haven of positive thinking. :rotfl:

Enditall did it.

Many thanks for all the quick and helpful replies!

Great to hear it Hartford688! I hope your playing experience will only improve.

P.S. What kind of system did you build?

Isn't the screen flicker problem fixed in the new patch 1.02?

Also, what program did you "kill" that was causing the problem?

Oops...I thought 1.02 was not out.

Well, I can't tell you which one it was...essentially I whacked 'em all...

1.02 isn't out yet. ;)

Only the 1.02 version of the Demo.

Well I do look forward to gaming with the new rig. I have had Il2FB/AEP/PF and SHIII for a while too but been unable to run them adequately (last rig was a PIII 800).

Very much looking forward to my time in a VIIC, 688i and P3C.

Thanks for the kind words and greeting.

I put together a:

AMD 3800+ X2
Gainward 6600GT 256MB
1GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3200
ASUS A8N-SLI
Fortron 400W
P-160 case

Sorry for the geeky list...having put it together I am very proud of it! In retrospect it is pretty easy to put together, but at the time it was pretty confusing and nervewracking. None of the manuals actually seemed to quite tie to the kit and each contradicted each other. But now set for home builds.

At least you are building it with a amd processor :D

I had End it All then I lost it when I changed out my Mother Board. Does any one have the down load site?

Thanks,

:sunny: EIA did it for me. My flicker was caused by 'Go-Back.' (Back-ups)
Not sure if the MS XP built-in back-up/recovery tool would cause this prob., as I dont use it, but I doubt it.

'Go-Back' sounds more like a Symantic "Norton" application.

When the BETA testers tell us it's solved their biggest concerns (which were all very valid). :yep:

Hope springs eternally in the mountains of Idaho, to think of a screen not set in widowed mode free of flicker, AH the wonder of it all.
