Hi guys,

I would like to add a moon phases info on the F1 help screen to add more realism on the hunting party. But we have to know three first answers:

1.I'm not shure if on the SH3 the moon are correctly plotted and simulate as a real life.

2.And if so we will need a chart with these informations (moon phases) between 1939-1945.

3.The moon light on SH3 are enough to be used as a tactical feature?

Somebody could help me? :hmm:
PS: any news on moon reflection? :hmm:

Hi Rubini!

Unfortunately the game does not model moonlight as a tactical feature. The ambient light is the same whether the moon is out or not - and there are no reflections from the moon unless you're zoomed in, e.g. with binoculars/uzo.

However I think they do model the times/phases of the moon accurately.

Thanks for the reply oRGy,

I will study and include (if possible) a chart of the moon phases anyway.
Perhaps somebody will mod the moon reflection and then the chart becomes slight useful.. :up:

@Rubini,

I like the idea and I'm not knocking it in any way but there is another SLIGHT obstacle: The clouds, we only have 2 types available, if you have the overcast sky then the moon is useless, if you have the high-clouds then it will work to an extent.
I've made a few of my own clouds and I swap them from time to time but not everybody can do that.

You should contact JScones about putting your cloud modifications into SH3Cmdr. That way, SH3Cmdr can randomize the different cloud formations.

P.S. Can you put all of your cloud TGA's up on rapidshare? I'd sure like to try it.

-This is true. But also in real life. If you get bad weather or overcast sky you will don't 'see' the moon anyway. And perhaps in the near future we will have moon reflection and better clouds texture like yours. :up:

@marhkimov

I don't have the program you mention, I didn't realise there was a function in it to randomise the clouds, sounds good, does it accept more than 2 cloud types?

@Rubini,

I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way about your mod, I'm more of a day attack person myself, but on the odd occasion when I have been out there at night the moon glow or lack of it can come in useful whichever way you need or don't need it.

The program I am talking about is SH3 Commander. You should give it a try if you don't have it, btw.

The actual basis of SH3 Commander is not to randomize clouds. It randomizes various mission/career files and such. The program is very flexible, however, and I recon it can be used to randomize other files within the SH3 folder... Just get into contact with JScones or Beery to see what they think.

BTW, what file(s) are you swapping in and out in order to change the clouds? Nori00? Nori01?

I'll PM you as I don't want to hi-jack Rubini's thread and change the subject.

Sorry Rubini. :(

Hartmann,

Thanks for the link. But we need that info on a text file format. I try to find some conversion program in the www but i don't find anything really useful.
If someone here could convert this info to a text will be good. :hmm:

I wonder if posible to copy the sun light source and paste it to the moon changing the color, since there are different moon images (skinned 3D model) could be posible to assign one to each.

By the way, in case anyone is confused, ambient light is modelled according to different light conditions. So on an overcast night, there is much less (well, there is in IuB) ambient light to see things, no reflections, etc.
