Got the Sonalysts newsletter. Demo 1.02 is out  and it said this about retail patch:

The SCS-DW v1.02 release candidate is in the hands of the BETA testers, and so

Very good news. In the newsletter, they also show what the box art will be for the retail version. It looks very nice. Looks like I might have to buy the retail version for the box. Doesn't hurt to have a backup, right?

A demo for a patch?? I'm not complaining, but I'm curious.
Its so changed the game for releasing a demo?

So is it coming in a box or a DVD cover like almost everything elses including big release games?

I think of the demos as a sort of open beta game. If that helps. LOL
I just played the new demo for a little while. It's pretty smooth on my computer. Limited to 800 x 600 dpi screen though.
I have always had trouble with one voice command. The "Goto the ATO Screen" does not seem to work for me. Maybe I am misspronouncing the ATO thing. Do you say A T O as Ay Tee OH?. All the other voice commands seem to work ok. I may need to train the voice thing on a few more training modules. I have a new noice cancelling mic headset that I picked up from Altec Lansing. I had trouble with my old Labtec mic headset also using the goto the ATO screen.
Sound seemed very smooth this time around and the switching from one map size to another in the NAV screens was fast and smooth. Very much better than the very first Demo and the first dangerous waters full version before the first patch.
Hope that the DW 1.02 patch is as good as this new demo which it should be.

That's one sweet looking box! I think I remember Jamie saying that they would put up a printable box art so we could print it and place it in DVD cases. I sure hope they do that, anyway. I just have my CDs in a zip-loc bag.

I might order a new manual just for the hell of it.
Box does look better. Seriously though if it comes in a box like that it will be the first I have seen for a long time. In sales terms I think boxes help sales. People like boxes with funky art on them....
Also I might make my own box if someone would give me the size.

hehe I started to do that, but decided that I didn't like the way they sat in the book and my desk was too harsh an environment for them to lay in the open. :88)

I've posted some initial reactions to the demo in the LwAmi thread.
Only had a short time running it yesterday but now have got BrettDez's demo missions from Bills so
hope to put it through its paces later today.
I like what I have seen so far with the Kilo conformal and the graphical interphase.
Not clear yet whether (if at all) the Auto TMA has been tweaked away from its omniscience.

The LOCK button works the way it did in SC now. You can still adjust it manually without having to unlock it, and it is locked with respect to the contact you are working on instead of locked on that setting for all contacts.

Is there anywhere else I can download the media pack? I wanted to see the walkthrough video for the Kilo mission. If I try FilePlanet, they have no free servers. If I try the other mirror, Peliplaneetta, I get a 404 File Not Found message. :-?

Nice demo. I like the strategy aspect... nice break from FPS. This probably holds no weight for folks into this type of immersive gameplay, but I thought the graphics were a bit lacking. I do like the voice recognition support, though I haven't used it.

No, I don't think the graphics is lacking but the graphics engine doesn't support 32bit color nor AA or AF and that is really anoying.
Not a showstopper but anoying yes.

I'm almost glad "the graphics are lacking".
I'm currently playing Civilization IV, along with its full-fledged 3D engine with bells and whistles. Even with very powerful configurations, this games turns into stutter-fest in late game, when there are many units on screen. And according to the game forums, I should be glad the game isn't crashing every two turns. I wished they stayed with the 2D engine of Civ3.
Apart from some reccurent problems with sound that some users experience, it seems to me that DW is a much more robust gaming experience...

That's because Civ IV is infested with memory leaks.
It has nothing to do with 3d graphics.
Even if the game were in 2d and had memory leaks, it would still stutter after some time because the memory is being used up continuosly without being freed.
Apart from some reccurent problems with sound that some users experience, it seems to me that DW is a much more robust gaming experience...
But yes, Dw is one of the most stable games i've played.

:D As this request 'fell on stoney ground' elsewhere -
TMA in the Demo - Jamie wrote 26th Oct.:-
Dangerous Waters Update Version 102 Build 3XX (English) 'The way that TMA on submarines handles ''manual solutions" is improved'
Note this was listed after the 'Speed-lock'improvement.
There has been precious little feedback on changes to the way the subs handle manual solutions.
Or has it just skipped my attention ?
Has anyone observed any differences ? Wish Jamie would elaborate. It has a different feel but I cant put my finger on it ? :hmm:
The manual solutions were a PITA to change. Placing them on the map was always easy, but assigning a course and speed were a great deal harder, the tma station really restisting the change. I haven't really tested this in the new demo though.
I *expect* this to be the fixed problem in a nutshell.
Err... Gentlemen... Maybe I misunderstood smth... But this nice box version - is it for those who hasn't DW yet?
I mean - if I already have DW - should I buy this box with 1.02? Or 1.02 will be available to free download for those who has 1.01?
