View Full Version : New Ship Mods - List them here.
Since the cloning and modelling tools are rapidly becoming widely used, a lot of new ship mods will soon be available to add to the game. Since any newly added ship needs a listing in the EnglishNames.cfg and GermanNames.cfg files (if the listing is missing it can cause game crashes) it might be a good idea to have a database of ship mods on the forum so that modmakers and mod users can avoid (as much as possible) any conflicts due to mods overwriting the aforementioned files.
So if anyone knows of a ship mod (meaning a new 3D model - not just a skin), please list it here, along with details of where to get it. I think it will make it that much easier to avoid problems.

I'll try to keep this list updated with as many links as I can find.

Beery, you mean this as a database for development purposes, or I should keep adding the download links to the mod list?
Ones from the top of my head:
Ships:
Sergbuto's Large Cargo
Serbguto's Transport
The Hospital Ship (Iambecomelife?)
Flottenbegleiter by commander1980
Planes:
Arado Search Plane (sergbuto)
Walrus Search Plane (sergbuto)

This is just an effort to avoid mod conflicts, so it's just so that users and modders know what mods to be aware of. So you'll want to keep adding them to the mod list for the modders.
I wish I had time to seek out all the new ship mods, because I see potentially large problems due to conflicting EnglishNames.cfg files. I believe if a name is missing from the file it can cause crashes, and if a player installs a new ship mod on top of another one it will delete the first mod's listing in EnglishNames.cfg. If that happens, anytime the game generates a ship from the first mod, the game will crash.

Could you post a link, because I can't see anything like it on any of the German forums or SH3 sites that I frequent?

I Just looked the cruiser is from Commander1980 so you can just PM. him.
I believe the author is redeveloping that. I think it was commander1980? Yes, I think it was. He wanted to do a Karlsruhe class based on the Southampton. But that was a while back.
u-boot.realsimulation.com has a collection of new units in its "skins" section, btw. Might want to check it out.
Another I remember is that someone made the H8K 'Emily' Search Plane - Japanese. Basically a reskin of the Sunderland.
I found the Karlsruhe (the German Light Cruiser) on U-boot.Realsimulation.com. Unfortunately it's just the Southampton Light Cruiser renamed as the Karlsruhe and with different armament. I'm not sure why Commander 1980 didn't issue it as a separate ship (possibly he was just starting out on adding ships at the time), but maybe he'll work on that so that it can be used with the Southampton mod, rather than instead of it.

Hi Beery!
The Karlsruhe needs a lot of work that she looks more like the real Kalrsruhe. I have decided not to release her again as a simple copy of the Southampton. Currently i have no time for that, because i am doing my examination. In about two weeks i will complete the much easier Mahan-class destroyer and then i will continue the Karlsruhe. The karlsruhe-model was nearly ready, but the importing didn't work properly. I hope, that the new pack3d will solve the problems.
There will also come a new version of the Flottenbegleiter, with the second funnel standing higher and other small corrections.
Good idea with that thread. :up: ;)
Looking forward to those mods. Good luck with your exams! :up:
You have forrgoten my Sink them All mod. It contains pretty large list of clonned escorts both for Allies and Germany.

Thanks. Got it. Do you know of a direct link to the mod that I can post?
Also, if a ship is listed in the EnglishNames.cfg file (and the GermanNames and the FrenchNames files), and if that ship doesn't exist anywhere else in the game - will that cause problems? I.e. could we avoid problems by having these files list all ships from all mods, whether the actual ship models were in use or not?

I couldn't see why it would cause problems, it's really just a lookup table. If the ship doesn't exist in the game, it just means that the entry is never called upon.
Easily tested though, add a fictitious entry called "TEST=Test Ship" or something and then have a play. I'd be surprised if it failed.

yep, it does not cause serious problems. If a names entry isn't listet in the languagenames.cfg, the game takes the name of the ship.cfg in data/sea/yourship, for example "Ftboot" for the Flottenbegleiter or "CLDido" for the Dido cruiser.
But it would be good anyway, if all names-entries could be listed for pasting them into your languagenames.cfg. Many players may use different mods and different ships and when copying an other names-file they will lose their shipnames.
lets start ;)
For the Flottenbegleiter the standard entry is
Ftboot=Flottenbegleiter
Other names that make sense:
Ftboot=Fleet Escort
Ftboot=Geleitboot (From 1941 on the Flottenbegleiters were called this way), or
Ftboot=Escort Boat
Thanks. Got it. Do you know of a direct link to the mod that I can post?
Many thanks. It is on Terrapin's site and I can't direct
link, sorry :oops:
I'd note that Cdr Gibs has released
Vorpostenboot
Typ 36A(M) Zerstorer
Tirpitz BB
Regards
Are there links to them? I ought to make sure they're actual new models before listing them. If they're just re-named versions of existing ships (if they don't have a separate listing in the names file) they don't pose a problem.
They're in Gibs german navy expack1 thread further down.
They're all new units though the Tirpitz is just a cloned Bismarck with a different skin. The 36A is most modified, the Vorpostenboot is a Tugboat with guns and a new skin.

Thanks, C-911.
I have added this to my RND file for both convoys and single ships and it will also show up as a 103 spawn where no specific is called for.
Although I have reduced its tonnage to 6,000 tons like I have done to all the merchants to curtail the unrealistic scores. Even though my tonnage is generally about 40% what it would be if I did not do this it is still twice Kretschmer's average.
I know this is 18K demensionally but I do it to keep my score down to rediculous from impossible!
Thanks again for your fine work; it is much appreciated.

I don't actually know but my guess would be Serg has made the Greek Destroyer raised and repaired by the Germans and commissioned as ZG-1 but affectionately called "Hermes". Since the Greeks had 2 modified G class (The G is included in the SH4 C-Class) built for them by the Brits but used German 127MM guns it was easy to send down some ammo for it.
The carrier HMS Hermes would not be an easy mod for SH3, she was sunk by Japanese dive bombers in 1942
