This just for my own use for now, as I need to contact several people whose mods I've been playing with, but basically it's designed as universal guage for all type VII boats, based on the following crush-depths:

VII B, C - 220m
VII C/41 - 250m
VII C/42 - 400m

The red-arcs commence at 10m prior to crush depth for each type.

Used with Capt America's 400m mod, and then timetravellers depth mod, it seems to work well.

I'd like to tinker with it awhile, and obviously talk to the people whose mods I've used before putting it out, in the meantime - thoughts? I'm planning a similar one for type 9 boats.

I like it, the old eyes are fading a bit now so dials like this a great, I wouldn't mind a lager compass dial too while we are on the subject.

Thanks, I've tinkered with it a bit more, adding "luminous paint" and markers for clarity of absolute crush-depth.

Nice one...but...for realisms sake. I guess you wouldnt have a gauge in your VIIB in 1940 that would tell you what the crushdepth for a VIIC in 1942 is. I believe its an anacronism.

Your gauge looks super nice. Great job on it, especially the lighting. But if you want all those realism nuts out there to use this one (who, me?? ;) ), you should also release a version without the references to the seperate crush depths.

Thanks for listening

Wow, that is very clear and looks really nice!

The problem there is that there are 5 different crush depths for the VII/IX and XXI figures at least depending on whose figures you believe. There comes a point where it's simply less hassle to present the information for a series of subs, disregarding anachronisms, simply for the practicality of being able to use the Tiefenmesser without worrying about if you remembered to install the "correct" Tiefenmesser for the particular boat you'r in. I'm proposing to 2 "combined" 400m Tiefenmessers, one for VII's and one for IX's.

That said, I'm happy to produce pukka ones that only show the crush depth for a particular sub, I use Paintshop Pro with multi-layered images, so it's very straightforward to swap around the coloured arcs.

Looks great. Now if you could do the same thing for the compass I would be hog heaven.

I presume it's the mini-compass you're interested in?

Well, I also meant that you should release a version without the specific markings for each sub (type VII, VIIC41, VIIC42, or IX).
Just a regular ol' depth meter, mostly similar to the one in your screenshots...

0-150m green
150-250 yellow
250-400 red

I really just love the lighting and the clarity of your gauge. When you release it, I think I will stare at it often...

Righto that should be easy enough. Do you want it for the IX or VII or both, and if both, with same markings?

I guess you can make it for both types (VII and IX) and with identical markings... :)

Depends on what everyone else wants...

I've got a bunch of gauges I want to redo, especially compasses! I'll work gently towards getting a set out once I've contacted a few people whose mods i'm modding as it were!

Just an FYI, but SH3 Commander can automatically install a different gauge for each U-boat type every time you load the game. The mod includes separate folder structures for every type of U-boat. You just place a gauge configured for each individual boat in each U-boat's folder, i.e.:

SH3 Commander\U-boat\IIA\data\Menu\Gui\Layout\DialsFdb.tga (the dial graphic for the IIA)
SH3 Commander\U-boat\IID\data\Menu\Gui\Layout\DialsFdb.tga (the dial graphic for the IID)
SH3 Commander\U-boat\IXB\data\Menu\Gui\Layout\DialsFdb.tga (the dial graphic for the IXB)
SH3 Commander\U-boat\IXC\data\Menu\Gui\Layout\DialsFdb.tga (the dial graphic for the IXC)
etc.

After doing this, whenever you load the game via SH3 Commander, the correct dials will automatically load for the boat that's going to be in use. The above example shows only the 2D dials, but the same process can be used for any number of game files anywhere in the data folder.

Oh wow, thanks for the tip Beery...

I just realized that different boats have different gauges. Oh, that's so cool.

They 'can' have different gauges. They don't at present (except for the ones that are different because of the game itself). The structure exists (in SH3 Commander) to add them though.

One question though:

If I put in a different set of dials for each sub, how does SH3 'know' which sub I am going to play with? I mean SH3 can only take the gauge graphics from one source, so how does that work? Ok, example coming up...

I boot up SH3 Commander and run it. Then I play a mission with a TypeII u-boat. How will the game know to load up the typeII dials? And then if I quit the mission (but without restarting SH3 or running SH3 Commander again) and start another mission in a typeVII u-boat, will I see the typeVII u-boat dials?

OK, basically, how does "switch file" feature work?

OK, basically, how does "switch file" feature work?

When you load an ongoing campaign via SH3 Commander, you choose (while in SH3 Commander) which career you're going to load. In your career, there is a U-boat in use. SH3 Commander reads the career info (date, U-boat type, flotilla) and when you hit 'Launch SH3' SH3 Commander takes files from one of SH3 Commander's multiple date, flotilla or U-boat folders and places it into the game's file system, all based on the career you chose. Then it launches the game. You then choose 'Career', and the game takes you right to the same career you chose in SH3 Commander. All you have to do is continue the career and you'll find all the correct date-based, flotilla-based and U-boat-based files loaded up for that career. Single Missions work in a similar way, as do new career starts. In all cases SH3 Commander asks you to fill in a few vital details it needs, then you hit 'Launch SH3', and it sets everything up automatically.

Ok, thanks for the reply. That's how I figured it worked, anyhow.

But lets say I am using a TypeVII in my career, and then I quit, go to single mission, and use a TypeII, the gauges won't be correct, right? I assume SH3 Commander is not that smart.

Right. You have to quit and use SH3 Commander to reload the game after each patrol.

Is this luminous gauge available yet? When/where? It looks great, and well, I want it! Thanks!

No mate, I'll do a complete package of them, Beery has agreed to package them in Sh3 commander friendly form, when done, and there's a number of other gauges I want to redo, particularly the the compressed air, compass, Co2 and 25m tiefenmesser.

Glad you liked it though!
