Why is my crew a bunch of health fanatics? I see bananas and grade 'A' quality beef hanging from the roof in the galley, even after months on patrol. WHERE IS THE ROT? Why don't my crew members light a friggn cigarette every now and then to relieve the stress of these long voyages? This is 1939 for God's sake, everyone and their momma smokes? :|\

Acutally thats a good question, i never thought of it like that until now, so yeah i second it. Maybe if the sdk ever did come out we might see some mods with those ideas in them.

Well, one of the loading screens does feature a pipe if I recall.

I`d like to see my crew smoke too! AND I WANT THEIR BEARD TO GROW!

No smoking was allowed inside the boat for obvious reasons though. So they'd only be able to smoke on deck, anyway :hmm:

This is the Politically Correct U-Boat Waffe.
There is no pain.
There is no suffering.
There is no snow therefore the bridgewatch will not get frostbite.
There are no lifeboats therefore no one will suffer the hardship of floating on the seas and perhaps getting seasick.
The debris will disappear rapidly to avoid littering our seas.
The oil slicks will vanish in mere seconds causing little or no harm to the marine life.
Gross Admiral Donitz himself has approved of the new low cholestrol bananas.
There is only quick and glorious instant death and on to a new career in Valhalla!

I remember reading I think in Iron Coffins, that the smoking lamp was almost always out due to poor ventilation, fuel, batteries, ect. Sometimes the Skipper would allow them to take turns up on deck, but not at night.

It's been too damn wet to spark up in our patrols!

So, if they are smoking underwater, when they open the hatch, will a big puff of smoke belch out?

Kaleun

..Gis a fag, i'm gasping!!

In reality i smoke - but the game is directed at a broad audience including the under 16's (UK law) and i can see why they are not condoning smoking to this youger age group, even though it was set in a period where everyone smoked because the health risks where not fully understood

It may mean my taxes go up! but i'd rather people didn't kill themselves with tobacco making the same mistake i did!

I can imagine the kaleun telling the crew not to smoke, ´coz it´s hazardous to your health. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOONG silence and the crew haul kaleun to the torp tube and launch him out to the side of the next merchant they see. ;)

Although Hitler did not smoke and was a Nazi, he was no anti-smoking Nazi.... The game has enough trouble just virtual people together in one piece (can't tell you how often my crew loves to be on deck when I am underwater) much less to simulate smoking...

 I agree the crew should be able to spark one up especially the men on the bridge when surfaced.

When you said 'Where are the smokers?', I thought you were talking about the bad guys in 'Waterworld' lol. I would have been tough to get a jet ski with a torpedo.

Nice lateral thinking, shipmate!

On U-46 I permit my men up top to light up, as the watch officer allows.

There is normally an informal tobacco tax enforced, though, and that could be anything from a mug of hot chocolate to be shared, or some fruit, or a saucy postcard, or even once during a particularly boring spell, getting the seaman to sing "Tomorrow Belongs To Me!" at the top of his voice to the seagulls.

We only once had a problem, when Dieter stubbed his cigarette out on top of the flare box. The man's an idiot sometimes.

There was much consternation, but no harm done.

It takes a brave man to punch someone of Dieter's size, but the 2nd Officer did it.

I'd like to think that Dieter accepted it rather than go before my discipline, but he stayed up there chatting with my Number Two for quite a while, even lighting another, and god forbid, offering them around.

He's been as good as gold ever since.

A good man, my Second Officer....

I think the SH3 off-watch crews probably stoke-up when not in view of an officer...smoking on u-boots was usually only possible when surfaced (and circulating fresh air) or while under snorkel due to the carbon-monoxide that it naturally expends.

The CO2 filters would be under a lot of additional stress while submerged...
