Gizzmoe- The message I get is the generic "page cannot be displayed... check your internet security settings"... etc etc.

As of yesterday I aslo cannot access ImageShack.

I am starting to think that I must have bumped some secret key combo or clicked something I shouldn't have, in haste due to fatigue.

System restore didn't fix it.

Disk cleanup, Defrag didn't fix it

Lowered browser security settings didn't fix it.

Did full system spyware scan and virus scan... no help, nothing more than the usual low level stuf found and fixed.

What a pain in the tail.

Try to ping Rapidshare.

Start/Run, type cmd. Press return, then type

ping www.rapidshare.de

If you get a reply DNS works.

Maybe IE is somehow broken? Try it with Firefox or Opera... Also deactivate XP´s internal firewall or any other SW firewall. Remove the proxy from IE if it´s not required by your provider.

Regarding using different browsers... I am ashamed to say I don't know how to do that. I have heard of Foxfire and Opera... but that is all.

Just install it and it should work. Usually you don´t need to configure anything. If your provider requires a proxy configure it under Extra/Options/General/Connection Settings.

Everything is working again (Rapidshare, Imageshack) and all I did was be a little persistent...

... I think this was a service provider problem... not something going strange with my settings etc.. :nope:
