Pack3D - Manual and Bugs Reports here...please

Well, I'm Italian and my English is not perfect.
I go to www.java.com (http://www.java.com) and try to install it, online whith direct link (I've tried also online installation).
At some point of installation, an error message appears:
Error,,,Windows installer,contact program owner.
Note....This message is incorretly traslated in English by myself, but the sens of problem should be comprensible.
I've removed all previous installation ov java and his registerfile (regCleaner).
I've tried to install java offline (I have turned off the router).
But problem still present.:damn:

I don't know which MSI-version the Java installer requires but maybe you have to update your Windows Installer software. Normally this comes with MS Windows Update, but you may have not updated or clicked it away.

Try updating your computer first:

Then, download this offline Java-installer if you haven't already and try again.

Nothing.
I tried to:

1)Offline installation
2)Update Win installer and other Win update
3)Installing msjavx86
4)Removing all previuos java installation.

The result id ever the same.
I'm desperate, i condamned to not modify nothing of S.Hunter because this f##ing program runs only to Java...but WHy java?????:stare: :stare:

Finally, I 've installed java 6.
Well, after Pack3d.jar download....this file is as Rar file.If I doubleclick on it, it open as a rar file windows of estraction.

Right click the file.
Select properties on the pop up menu.
There is a button that allows you to change what opens the file.
(You've associated it with Win Rar).
Select Java Platform.

I went to java website and check, my version..is right!
Right click on Pack3d and select open whit Java
When i launch the file, a black screen windows (also similaro to dos promt)appears for a second (is too fast to read anything)and program end.

This is my first attempt for modding

As I run Pack3D -> Get DAT in order to open NSS_Gato.dat in order to be able to edit the file with a 3D editor :
The file does not open ; (I have Java script)

Pack3D requires the Java runtime (not JavaScript). Make sure you use version 2 of Pack3D, as it's the most stable one. If it still doesn't extract the models chances are it can't read the dat-file... You may want to check if you have a 3D subfolder (I think?) in the folder where the .dat is located. That's where Pack3D extracts them to. You may have missed that.


As far as .DAE, you can use Max, Maya, Blender, and many other programs.

An obj importer/exporter for S3D will be released in a few weeks though which should simplify all this.

another thing ; I have opened the NSS_porpoise.DAE with 3dsmax and than import it to Milkshape which I know better (and much more easy to handle) and there is no submarine cockpit ; I don't understand why ?

When pack3d gives me that error, sometimes it will work after I try 3-4 times in a row. It's very strange. If it keeps coming up, try reducing the # of polygons in your object, or check to see if any object faces are contorted into unusual shapes. I'm not sure why, but that seems to trigger errors.

I don't use 3dsmax, so unfortunately I can't help you with the other problem. If you don't mind working with a less complex program, you may want to try using Wings3d instead of 3dsmax.

Hello guys. I'm trying to open guns_radars.dat with Pack 3d but when I press GetDat button aplication freezes for a 10-20 seckonds and then nothing happens. Few other .dat files are having this problem as well. Any sugestions or advices what to do?

Not all work with every dat.

Thanks for the link m8. However, while I managed to open guns_radars.dat I still can not get textures from it. Pack3D extract all but textures even thou it shows that there are textures .tga inside. Any suggestions?

Textures can be stored within the DAT file or outside in "data/textures/...". In the latter case you found in the DAT file only references in the form of the filenames of the textures. Pack3D can not distinguish this, it shows the filename of the texture as it would be stored within the DAT file. Better use Silent3ditor to work with DAT files, there you can see if a texture is embedded or not.
