This is a beta because I havent been able to test it all 365 days of the year but I don't see why it wouldnt work on them
About these pic!!
on a couple of these pics I used CCIP's Camera Mod at 010 so the moon looks extremly larger than you would see it in the game
Questions comments or complaonts Welcome!!!
Get it here Http://rapidshare.de/files/5670183/HI_REZ_MOON.zip.html
Got to get to work soI'll upload it to http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ later

Looks great!
I use the other moon mod (sorry, forgot the author name) which have a big and a small one. I would like a intermediary size... is't possible?

Krieg Schwein!!! That looks BEAUTIFUL! DL'd it and intend to use it.
As Rubini asked, are you able to make a "middle-sized" one?
WOW! Man... WOW!

Looks great, but, isn't it somewhat oversized?
Cheers

Trouble is when the moon is near or at the horizon, it looks
large because of planet atmoshere. But as it gets higher in
the sky, it gets smaller. You can't have it that big when high
in the sky....But it looks GREAT !!!
JIM
Rubini, I believe you are refering to this mod, AIL HI RES MOON MOD V2 by Ailantd. I use it also and it looks great.

How big is this one, compared to Ailantd's small moon. For me, proper size is more important than detail, but if this mod's moon is similar in size to Ailantd's moon, then I'll take the higher detail.

....Turns out you can edit the size in Irfanview.

I think that is a bit oversized, and more in the screenshot with the crew on the tower.
The correct size is the same that the sun, about 30 minutes of arch in the sky.
this is the cause of the moon or solar eclipses, the same relative size .
some way to do the size smaller ??
this Moon-Mod looks very nice,
thank you for your work Krieg-Schwein.
two thumps up from me

Thanks for all the positive feedback :know: I appreciate it!!
When I made the screen shot I used CCIP's Super awesome camera.DAT mod that makes objects appear way bigger than they are for cinematic purposes,
also I made the mission in Norway in November which may make the moon appear closer because of the long November Nights,
There isn't really any need to resize the mod unless you have a video card with 64 megs of memory and I can put that out for those of you that would like!
I took 2 more screen shots in the same place same time to compare the size of the moon with the normal default Camera.DAT instead of CCIP's Mod,,
The first shot here is of the normal default
512 X 512 moon.tga that came with the game
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/7789/low8zb.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
and here is my mod 2048 X 2048 Moon.tga
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/6262/hirez7kk.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
You can see that the game handles both moon's the same and they are both the same size!!
So like I said if you are having issues with the video card handeling the mod I can make it smaller for you
Again DANKE :) for the feed back!!

The moon is not that big at all in game for me! Have I made some wrong os is it just because you are using some other camera setting?? :-?

The Visibilty Mod made by Ortega places the Moon further away and it looks too small because of that.
I was hoping this 'Larger Moon' may help correct the 'far away tiny moon' problem in the Visibility Mod so it looks normal size again.
it truly looks great, but on the other hand it doesnt look as if youre standing on planet earth watching it :P

Greetings Jungmann!
I suspected that myself :hmm: and I was also thinking that this would have solved it. :(
Is it possible to mod a "bigger" moon who will be suitable for visibility mod? :hmm:

Only Ortega has that ability. The 3D model is in that DAT file and I have no way to make it a bigger sphere to make it look the normal size again.
I lack the talent. It can be done, I just do not know how to do it.

I understand Jungmann!
@Hartmann: I don't have a clue how to do it.
Someone want to do this?
Would be a nice addition to the visibility mod :)

Not really a complaint but an observation.... It looks like that this new moon mod may be limited in the number of viewable "phases" when compared to other mods...
... appearance wise I think there is no competitor anywhere close to this good except maybe Ail's 2.5 moon. Krieg-Schwein's moon is stunning!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this Krieg-Schwien.

I'll try to answer all of the questions if I can!!

When I took the screen shots I was using the CCIP camera mod and it will make other objects appear to be closer together to each other than they are depending on which one that you use, I have been using it allot lately cause I want to win the Screen shot contest at http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ and win the U=Boat model REALLY REALLY Bad :arrgh!:
you can get the Camera mod from http://u-boot.realsimulation.com/ in the >> Silent Hunter 3 Mods (General Section)
there are 3 of them but I recommend ( FreeCamPro(1.4ready).zip )
because it has 12 settings 010-->> 130, I Like the first 3 010 - 030 because they give the outside view of the sub such a Cinematic view kind of like the difference between watching video tape and a full movie

The normal moon in the game is 512 X 512 and My moon is 2048 X 2048 but as you can see from my previous post they are both the same size when you look at them from the same spot at the same time! I believe that the easiest Way to make it bigger is to us the camera mod.
I have looked at the mod by Ortega and beery and they use these .DAT files
EnvColors_Arct.DAT
EnvColors_Alt.DAT
Enclose_Med.dat
SkyColors_Arct.dat
SkyColors_Atl.dat
SkyColors_Med.dat
and the last file is the Sensors.cfg
the EnvColors*.DAT files can be easily edited by using the Color inspector tool from Time traveler
http://www.delraydepot.com/tt/SH3Unpacker_build140.zip
This is a real simple program that will edit the ocean colors
The SkyColor*.DAT have .TGA files in them that can be extracted for editing by using Time travelers SH3 Unpacker Program
http://www.delraydepot.com/tt/SH3Unpacker_build140.zip
here is a link to his wed site that can explain the tools a Little better than I http://www.delraydepot.com/tt/sh3.htm#unpacker
He has a lot of Sweet tools that no moder should be without!!
Now with all of that said!!!
I do not believe that those particular files are what has made to moon smaller with that mod
I'm not positive because I haven't had the chance to play with the setting but I think the file you need to edit is
Sensors.cfg files located X:\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\
This can be edited very EZ with notepad!!
I compared their file to the Default file and there are only 2 lines that are different from the Default in the game! in the Visual paragraph section they changed
Visual range factor=0.5 to Visual range factor=1.75
and
Visual light factor=0.8 to Visual light factor=1.2
I could be wrong but I really believe that if you edit those 2 lines you will get the effect you want!!

I really kind of made this mod on a whim cause I'm on the Internet looking for textures for a sub skin I'm working on and also working on making a new Terrain mod and I saw a picture of the moon and thought this must look better than the moon in the game, So in answer to your question about the moon phases I don't think they are different unless the larger file is making it appear in a funny way. here is a screen shot of the moon on the Alpha layer that the game uses
http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/3191/1moon3vi.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
You can see that there isn't much room to make the phases different cause the Alpha layer determines what part of the moon you see..
Like I said there is a possibility that mod being 2048 X 2048 will cause the edges of the moon to be slightly odd to be honest I haven't had the time to investigate! but If I made it smaller possibly back to 512 X 512 that might correct it also there is another moon called Moon_256.tga that is 256 X 256 but it uses the same phases and it more blurry and I think it is used in Low Rez, But if the game was pulling that moon up I think you would know it for sure cause it's blurry as hell!
Thanks for all the Great Compliments!!
I hope I understood your questions well enough to answer then correctly

It is smaller because in Ortega Visiblilty mod the Moon is moved from 900 to 1800 away in the scene.dat file.
If you place it back to normal, it will look bigger as it was but it will be in front of the cloads. The whole world was made bigger.
If you read through that long thread, you will see where ask about it and tried and Otega tells me the moon 3D ball sphere must be enlarged using vertexs etc. Way beyond my tools to edit that 3D data objects.

Answer part.
For making the moon bigger you need to scale the vertices of the 3d object. Just select the moon vertices chunk in the scene.dat (they must be four vertices, with 3 xyz coordinates each = 12 floats) and multiply them by the scale factor (2x for example).

Thanks for Clearing that Up!!
It looks just like Earth, when I changed some colors in paintshop. :)
