The first mod I created using Sansal's cloning tool. It has a unique ID, so it doesn't affect its parent unit (no CTD's). It features three new skins bearing the red cross logo and green band. This ship will only spawn if you have made provisions for generic troopships in the campaign layer, but it's pretty self explanatory to add it to campaign.scr/campaign.mis.
If you have any other new surface units you must manually paste the unit's ID (NHOS=Hospital Ship) in your existing data\sea\englishnames.cfg and/or germannames.cfg. This is VERY important; otherwise, any additional new units (Sergbuto's additional merchants, Type 7 destroyer, etc) may cause CTD's as their entries will no longer be in the above cfg files.
Keep in mind that sinking a hospital ship will have a drastic impact on your career. If you're sadistic enough to destroy one, get ready to lose at least 10000 renown once you return to base. Just a little heads-up to any would-be war criminals out there (you know who you are) :roll: . Unfortunately the AI will attack any hospital ship belonging to an enemy country; a future version of the mod may place all hospital ships under a neutral "International Red Cross" nationality. Enjoy, and post any comments/technical problems here.

For a future version of this mod it would be great to have, as you said a new "International Red Cross" neutral country, which we could mod to also, then, carry a red cross flag instead of a US one.

Already done :D . It can spawn as a German, Italian, American, British, Dutch, Japanese, or Swedish unit (I may be missing a few). It would be interesting to try and add hospital ship routes to the map in accordance with major WWII land battles - a route across the channel in 1940 for the Battle of France, one in the Med for Anzio, etc.

This ship will only spawn if you have made provisions for generic troopships in the campaign layer, but it's pretty self explanatory to add it to campaign.scr/campaign.mis.
In order to do this we have to manually place every ship using the Mission Editor? They won't dynamically spawn?

It's historically accurate for the hospital ship to be an axis unit, since several German and Italian liners were taken over for this purpose.
The unit appears in the recognition manual and museum with no problems, although it shows the default AMC paint scheme. I'll take a look at the RUB backgrounds if Beery wats to release it as part of the next version.
It might spawn in the stock campaign, but I'm not sure, since I haven't checked all groups for generic troopship triggers. Any modmakers who want it to appear can simply place generic troopship groups in their modified campaigns (ie improved convoys); since there's only one other troopship (two with Sergbuto's transport) there's a pretty good chance it will spawn. Doing it that way will prevent ctd's on installations that don't have the hospital ship installed.

Sansal deserves a lot of the credit. The hospital ship was collecting dust on my hard drive until he devised a way to add unique ID's quickly and easily to new ships. Without it I would not have released the mod because of the CTD problem with identical units like the British AMC.

(Of course, sinking that innocent little Fishing Boat off the coast of England could be considered mean, too. :arrgh!: )

I vaguely remember the story; a webpage about it was in my favorites but I lost it :damn: . It wasn't pleasant reading.
I made sure to include it as a Japanese unit just in case we manage to put together a decent Pacific mod. cdr gibs has a GREAT 3d model of an American submarine. If we can research the American uniforms, alter the interface, and touch up RN ships to look like they're Japanese we'll be well on our way to getting it done :yep: .

I really want to use this mod but I'm afraid it will spawn a lot of "GENERIC Troop Transports" both in the Stock Campaign_RND File and in the "Improved Convoys" Campaign_RND File. :cry:
I've noticed that both of these Campaign Files have convoy's containing single "GENERIC Troop Transports".
It might just make encountering them all too common on the high seas.
Is there anyway to make them a completely seperate unit that won't place them in a "GENERIC" catagory?
That way they could just be added manually and in less numbers.
I really want this beautiful ship.

Now what should I do ?

It can be added to any nation by making a copy and putting that nationality in the new file and then that nations roster folder.
I do not believe there are generic troopships in the convoys. I just reedited my RND adding Serg’s transport so can confirm this. The single ships also have no troopships. I added Serg's by name for singles so I did not get the regular troopships steaming alone as this model resembles the Laconia which obviously traveled alone.
As far as renown loss, one can change that to getting a big bonus if one chooses.
I see this as a big easy target with big rewards until one gets close enough to realize it is off limits (Speaking to those with a virtual conscience, LOL)
I will add this too my RND.mis file as single shipping.

If you have no other new surface units you can just use JSGME for the entire installation. If you do, here's what you must do next:
-Place NHOS in data\sea
-Place the nation folders in data\roster. These contain cfg files that tell the game which nationality has the hospital ship. You can give it to every nationality if you want by pasting NHOS.cfg in every nation's data\roster\[country]\sea folder.

You can try opening english.cfg or german.cfg in data\roster. Choose an unused merchant type like "replenishment" and assign it to the data\[unit].cfg files in data\sea and data\roster\sea. However, you'll then need to mod it into the campaign layers yourself since the devs never got around to creating those unit types.

If I install this mod, via the mod enabler, will it generate when I run the game, or does its details need to be entered into additional files? :hmm:
If the latter then I will have to wait for it to be included in a group of mods, if not it goes in this weekend. :)

No, it won't generate by itself. Because it is a troop transport and those in the convoys are specifically named for the original ones; Class=TR. One must place this by name or simply go to the RND.mis file, search through RND groups, 61-118 (the convoys) and look for the troopships listed. simply remove the class line. Here is a troop ship in RND group 79, below that is what it would look like after you edited . This will not ensure the hospital always shows up. It just means the game will randomly choose from any type=103 available of which the hospital ship is one

I might add, if adding to single ship traffic, for any nation other than Britain and the USA, simply changing the type 102 to a 103 that will make the hospital ship appear.
But, change the cargo loads to:
CargoExt=-1
CargoInt=0
For Britsih or American you still must insert the NHOS in the class to specify the hospital ship or it may spawn the regular troop ship which would not have traveled alone.

I just noticed that the, "WesternEurope_44_13" thru 19, RND Convoys are set to spawn "GENERIC Troop Transports".
But this doesn't seem too bad, seeing how their post D-day Convoys, travelling to and from France, alone. Kinda seems fitting, Hospital ships travelling to and fro, the French Coast on 7/15/44.

Don't want to talk you into something you are not comfortable with.
But, if you open your campaign folder and copy the RND.mis file and save it to an outside folder, then if you screw up, you can just put the known good one back. It is not that hard and myself and others will be here if you need to ask a question.
Once you start to mess with this you realize it is the most important file in the game and you can make it harder or anythinger you want..
Again not trying to get you too, just saying there is help if you decide to jump in.

lol - no guns; just tons of searchlights. I wish that you could make it display searchlights all the time, since hospital ships were supposed to travel fully lit...

The RND. Mis file is not that hard to navigate.
Open in notepad and click edit, then click find and put in (Copy and paste Rndgroup 1 and change that to 61 and click find next. It will take you to the first convoys from which you can look through. By, changing the number in the box to 71, you will go to 71. Any number (convoys are 61-118) and click find next and you will go there so you can swiftly look through the convoys to find those with troopships, TR. You could make any ship into the hospital ship by changing things to look like this;

Of course, you would have to have the correct group number and unit number (and notice the Side=0. If you add this to a group that has side=1 for the other ships, change that to the same number. You can make it vary by changing the spawn probability. The number is how many of that ship etc.

Each ship entry in the RND file is for one ship only. If you made one NHOS then during the war, only when this convoy spawns will that ship appear, no other time.
If you scroll down to say RNDGroup300, then add type=102 to the find window (which is the cargo one) Click "find next" you will start to find the single cargo ships. It is easy because you can click find next each time which moves you to the next ship. You will see areas like England water, North Sea, Western Europe etc etc.
There are many listings. So, changing a few here and there will mean the hospital ship will show up as a single ship and you will be less likely to open fire with your deck gun until you get close enough to ID the ship
Just a thought. Again, if you save the original, you will not harm your game and once you start modding this you may want to add a Revenge to an odd convoy.

:x WHAT? :x I specifically said in the readme that it can't be used as a mod-for-profit. I already told them I wanted no part of their "enhancement" for this game, and I haven't changed my opinion. This is really getting annoying. And I thought we were starting to be a little too hard on these frauds! Hopefully enough people will know that they can get most of the mods included for free here and at terrapin's site.
You shouldn't let them get away with this. Even though the model is the property of Ubisoft, the skin and changes to make it a hospital ship are yours. There must be something you can do.
I for one, will not even consider buying the SeaWolf "addon," although I never did consider doing so anyway.

I don't know how well this would work, but you could send a letter to reg mcneal at combatplanes asking him to cease and desist use of your mod. Copy it to this forum, the UBI forum, the German forum, and the publishers of Seawolves. Let them know you are considering pursuing this through other means should they refuse to honor your request.
I doubt that a company this amateurish has a comprehensive legal department advising them- if they did, they probably wouldn't have done it in the first place. Remember, they backed off once due to pressure.

I do this stuff for fun, and I am horrified that someone tries to gain money from our mods, and presumably without our permission nonetheless!
There probably is a fine line here, but I think the line has been crossed! :(

Maybe the cambatplanes team have access to the SDK who knows how they did it? I don't care if the mods are stolen but I doubt they are. As I don't have broadband, I can't get them so I'm in the same position as insekt and others. Yesterday I emailed combatplanes and X1 to thank them and was glad to hear that they are planning to release a series of patches which will add Leigh Lights on planes, Wolfpacks with firing submarines, a new hospital ship with 3 skins for the campaign (if you sink it you are court marshalled!) and better, bigger convoys with zig-zag routes. I can't wait for the first patch which they said will be out next month And don't worry they said they have permission off the makers of these mods already and the download will be so small all people can get it for once.

Well, if they are to use Imabe’s NHOS, it would be stealing because a skin is an original piece of work. But, I can not assume they have grabbed his (yet!!!). Or, are you saying because someone made such a hospital skin it is wrong for X-1 to make one themselves????
I actually came back to post results on this thread about the hospital ship. I put it in the RND.mis file, both in convoys and as a single but it seems this thread has been pirated by the Seawolves enemies that have joined X-1 in making it their desire to detract from tweaking and improving SH3.
I was hoping we were over them but some just can not get enough of X-1 and want them to remain the dominate topic of SH3.
I don’t mind you bringing this up on the Seawolves thread but wished we did not have to diminish the fine work of these new hospital ships by making this thread about Seawolves instead of the excellent work and incorporating into the game.
I won’t detract from this anti-X-1 rally by conveying results of my testing and the positive affect they have in game play.

Actually, I was only thinking of using the LIBERTY Hospital Ships for the U.S. roster, just so all the countries don't have the exact same ship type as their hospital ships. :up:
You could do something like that, using the Liberty hospital ship for the US and the Transport one for the others. However, if you did, I would recommend changing the Liberty hospital ship to a type 103 (passenger), because if it remains a type 102 (cargo), many of them would appear in the game. Of course, if we ever get to the point where there are a much greater merchant roster, as iambecomelife said, the chances of meeting the Liberty hospital as a 102 would be much less.
I am personally satisfied with the transport hospital ship, but if someone made the Liberty hospital ship, that would be alright.

My mistake; it's actually a type 103 (transport ship). Still, the same principle holds. However, I might consider an updated mod where the transport model is used for most nations and the liberty for the U.S.

I didn't have any problems creating the texture for two reasons:
1) The mod doesn't involve any structural changes to the parent unit (NPTR)
2) The parent unit was already a multiple skin ship
All I had to do was rename the AMC skins and edit them in photoshop.
