I'm such a daydreamer! Was reading a post by timmyg00 (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=391050&sid=3dce0fc790092dac2b58ff09120e3278#391050) and it got me thinking... What if there was a Dangerous Waters version with future ships in it? A DW-NextGeneration if you will, lets say.... 20-30 years in the future. Here's my spill on what I would fancy to go in it"

Of course you have to include the DDX/DD21 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/dd-x.htm) and CGX/CG21 (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/cg-21.htm), but would be nice to see someTrimaran Hulls (http://defence-data.com/dsei99/pagedi10.htm) in their too, with superior speed and survivability as well as taking advantage of the increased deck space for weps/UAVs/etc. What kindof systems would be put in game? The Advanced Gun System (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/systems/ags.htm) would in place on the DDX and CGX... but what maybe some more advanced gun system (http://www.navyleague.org/sea_power/may_04_10.php) by then? First generation railguns? Initial Solid State Lasers? (http://www.capitolsource.northropgrumman.com/programs/jhpssl.html) For CIWS, we could go with the good ol, Phalanx type systems.....or perhaps assume that more advanced systems like THELs (http://www.st.northropgrumman.com/media/VideoInfo.cfm?VideoID=24) systems have made their debute by then (http://www.capitolsource.northropgrumman.com/programs/thel.html). The carriers (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/cvx.htm) in the game would most certainly be using Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ucav.htm) as regularly as the Joint Strike Fighter (http://www.jsf.mil/gallery/gal_video.htm), that's a gimmee.

Hm.... what else...... as far as subs go, the Virginia would still be alive and kicking, and probably its successor, whatever that may be (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ship/fas.htm), but probably not a lot of difference in Submarine capabilities. Photonics Mast (http://science.howstuffworks.com/photonic-mast.htm) on all the new subs for sure.... can't think of anything else new that would go on the subs..... ASW Helos would probably be the same pretty much and the good'ol P3-Orion would have its successor (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/mma.htm), but the same ASW capabilites.....

.....yep that about does it. Anything I'm missing? *goes back to daydreaming about ship-bound DEW systemss*

So much guesswork would be involved as to the performance and effectivness of these mentioned emerging weapon technologies.

that being said, it would be pretty cool to see a quasi sci-fi naval sim set 50-100 years in the future. (maybe 100 is pushing it!)

supercav torpedoes and bullets, railguns, chemical and solid state lasers. by this point in time, most naval combatants would be subsurface since it would afford the only real means of detection avoidance at all. 'stealth' would be defeated by the myriad of advanced sensors on the surface leaving only the medium of water to limit and slow the types of energy to foil senors. I imagine that these future subs will be able to surface and essentially act as surface combatants as they once had in history, if the need arised.

Here I go again - nth. time !!

Combine DW and Fleet Command so you go from the strategic 2D into 3d tactical/operational.

Done by DID - Total Air War - stratregic control from AWACS - then hop into a F22 and get it done !! :|\

:rotfl: :rotfl:

What was the dolphin's name? Darwin? I haven't seen that show in a long time. I actually liked the stern character in the last season by Michael Ironsides better than Roy Scheider's character.
