VIIC skin with new decks

Hi guys I've made a new skin,

I have reworked the main deck which looks a bit more like the real thing,
I've also made a new turm 0 bridge deck which also looks more like
the real thing.
I would like to post some pics to see if there is any intrest in this skin but don't no how could someone be so kind and tell me how to do this.

ok the hull I tried to match dunkelgrau51 gray as used by the Kriegsmarine on alot of there boats, I've added detail around torp tubes put in some drainage holes, rivets and weathering

this deck I wanted to put the metal grateing in the main part of the conning tower but was unable to do so because of texture repeat
issue. I'm useing this deck for all other turms (just made copy's and renamed them).

I've also matched the deck gun with the hull, I also wanted to change other parts of the gun but was unable to because this skin
is also used for the AAgun.
I have used uboat.net, books and Revell's exellent 1/72 scale model as a reference.
Now we come to the crunch these skins are all high res so the files
are big which means i could have a problem trying to find a host.
Also this skin is not for the typeVIIB boat as some details will not be in the correct place.

I only have a slight question though. Why is your skin only suitable for VIIC?? I thought the skin for VIIB and VIIC could be used for both versions :hmm:

Since I just bought a Type7C and about to make a patrol in it (and intend to stay with it till the very end of the war) I think this skins is perfect for me - it looks new, and clean, but also realistic. You did great job there I think.

Question: Since you added extra drain holes to the Hull around the Torpedo Shutter Doors... anyway could you accurately draw in the flood holes at the bottom of the Ballast Tanks?...

I have noticed 2 long retangular 'humps' at the bottom of the Saddle Tanks, and I'm guessing that is where the flood holes are supposd to go.. just asking, since you have a good eye for details...

Just installed it and tryed it out. Looks indeed very nice and realistic!
I tried also on a VIIB and with just a first look it seemed ok to me.
What detail makes this skin not suitable on a VIIB according to you?

And if I missed that detail, (most likely I did ;) )is it possible to make a VIIB skin too?

I, too, got the skin. Looks great! I also checked it out on the Type VIIB (via Museum), and the only thing I noticed was the under-bow net cutter looked a little borked. Looked fine otherwise. :up:

Just downloaded the skins and tried it out..looks terrific.I have not seen anything else besides what has already been mentionsed here.

Now just need this skin for the rest of the Uboat Fleet as it is one of the best to date.

Hi guys

Duke of Earl asked if i could add the flood holes at the bottom of the ballast tanks.

due to the texture repeat promblem i was unable to do this i also tried to add flood holes on the stern but again could not, I put as much detail on as pos without this problem becoming an issue.

ok people keep asking why you can't use this skin for the type B
well you can but the problems with this are: as syxx killer has pointed out the net cutter on the under side of the hull will have flood holes on it. Also the main deck around the conning tower will
look odd as the shape of the conning tower on the type B is not the same as the type C.

Also is everyone having the same problem that clamps is having
(see his pic) because I've noticed that when i use this skin for the type C its ok but when i tried it as a type B part of the skin moved
so i tried some other peoples skins and the same thing happened,
(type C ok but type B not so good)This is odd!
so it looks like I'm going to need to try a reinstall and maybe get to the bottom of this.this probs a real pisser.

How do you try this skin for a Type B?

Do you mean it automatically is used in-game for both B's and C's? I so, I ran SH3 today with these files, in a VIIB. I didn't notice anything wrong but I was too busy to really look.

It automatically uses the skin for the TypeVIIb.

And I see the problems but they are so minor that unless you are intentionally right up close to the sub looking for them you wont even notice them..except for the misaligned texture inthe above picture..but I can live with the minor defects until they are fixed.

There was a thread a while back where you could make an easy hex edit to get the game to use separate Type VIIB skins. You could only use the hull and deck skin if I remember right. Anything else associated with the VIIC would show up on the VIIB. The biggest thing is the conning tower. There could be some issues with different skins. Because of that, I reverted back to having both subs use the same skins. If you want to check out that thread by Jace, I'll give the link.

Same here, I used this mod and I'm currently sailing a VIIB. Awesome, the only bugs I saw were the black line that is broken on the sub's sides, and the low wire cutter texture that has what seems to be vent holes on it.

Minor issues in my opinion. I'm very happy to have a "clean but not too much" texture for the VIIB and C.

Your next mission, if you accept it, will be to make textures for the type II, the type IX and eventually the type XXI. Of course, if you or one of your teamate was killed or captured, the bureau blah blah blah.... :D

but I have A problem that i just can't figgure out,.. i'm useing your skins but the ..turm 7c deck ,1,2,3,4,5 ect. will not work for me no matter what i do, I still have the same deck color and texture as stock... What am i doing wrong.

Flyingdane what you need to do is copy the file named Turm7c_2_deck 3 times then name these files as follows
Turm7c_3_deck, Turm7c_4_deck and Turm7c_5_deck
then places these knew files with the rest in your
silent hunter3/data/Textures/TNormal/tex folder
you must make shore you name the files correctly
hope you sort this issue ok


I've just unloaded the corrected hull texture I hope this sorts the
aligne problem out. I did a clean install but still haveing some issues
but i think this should be ok now :up:
