I would like to do some skin editing. I have this awsome little pic that I would like to put on the conning tower of my subs. I would like to intergade it into the skin of the U-boats. Not a side emblem that can be added or taken down, but actually part of the U-Boats skin. I have Adobe Photo Shop to edit with. Thanks for any and all help.

Go to the SH3 Modders forum in subsim, all the info is there. In the updated modders list link found in the forum theres a tutorial file on how to skin your boats, first you need to dl a tool that opens up the dat files address found also on that updated modders link.

Oh and when you finish making your skins put them up for download.

If you permit, i have no time to explain you right now, jhust quick:
open up an tga file of the sub you like, and put the sharkmouth on a "NEW LAYER".
now move the sharkmouth to the conng tower part of the Sub skin, on the lower left part.
save again as YOURSKIN.tga, or your submarines skin. save it to the
"textures/tNormal/tex" Folder, and now its in the game.
Wether you permit or not , i will play a thief now and steal your image. :arrgh!: and your idea :yep: I hope you forgive me and let me bguy you a beer if we ever meet.
and see if i can help you with the problem.
tell me, Friend: what Submarine tower do you wish to have it on? VII series? II or IX series?
Sharkmouths rock.... :D ;)

Hello HundertzehnGustav
Thank you for your help. And you are more then welcome to use the image in any way you like! I'm glad that you like it. I would like to have it on the type 7 and the type 9. I will give it a try on my end and see what I come up with. My subs right now have a black skin on them which is totally cool. Well, not all of them are that way. The type 7B has a camo skin while the type 7C is totally black in color. Its easy to tell the difference between the two. Here is a better pic of my sharks teeth that you and all others may use in any way that they like. It totally makes me happy to help others out! :sunny:
ENJOY!

Is this a long hard technical thing to do?

You simply didn't look hard enough. They're there. Theres one on how to open skins and edit them, theres two in the modders forum. But believe me if u dont know even the first hint of editing, i advise you to leave it to the professionals, you'll most like stuff up your install of SH3
Anyways the editors are probably still out on patrol, wait for them to get back

Kiwi, thanks mate for your help but is this not the modders forum that we are in now? :-? I see nothing in here that pertains to my question. I will do another search in here for what you are saying. I looked the other night until 4:00AM and could not find anything. Since you know right where they are at could you please help me out by providing me with a direct link or PLEASE be more detailed with your info. Thank you very much!

Hey, okay Bob, lets get you going :D
I am named Bob too, hope you dont mind me calling you such.
First, go to this place, and take the trial version of Paint shop pro 9
(need to create an account first)
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=Corel3/Trials/Login&pid=1047023911984&cid=1047024437292
Thios program can open and alter TGA files, the Files you are looking for.
TGA files are like Bitmaps, or Images, and contain the "skins"; or "Paintjobs", as i prefer to call them.
lets say you open one of the uboat skins, NSSUboat7.tga or something
Open one of them and, in the top bar, choose "Layers" and create a new raster Layer.
Now you are putting one new empty image above, but not on the tga file you opened.
you can now work on your new layer, paint on it, modify it as you wish put a shatkmouth on it, or a smiley. Or paste a whole new Picture on it-your mind is the limit.
when done, save your project as a paint shop pro file, and you can restart later on, where you quit.
to see your work in the game, save as NSSUboat7c.tga file, and put it in the
SH3/data/textures/TNormal/tex folder
Done
Okay i suppose you are shurely stuck at some point here and might be coonfused a LOT whzen you first open up a TGA image.
shoot away your questions, i have patience to spare
:D
and will check back on you tomorrow. :yep:

Look at this picture, and realize the problems of a sharkmouth on the conning tower
it is NOT obvious WICH part of the TGA file is WICH part on the object you are painting. Mindboggling.

Sad... well, i do not think so.
Look, i for one can only surf at an internet cafe, am offline at home.
Otherwise i would have bugged you to speak to me on MSN messenger, ventrilo teamspeak or some other speaking Program.
We could have taken the time to go through all the questions you had.
BUT: i dont have internet at home, and am glad so- it is very addicting and i never seen much sunlight when i had it.
Add that not all know or are interested about painting, plus many jhust come here to read if there are any mods to find in this topic :nope:
it is nothing negative...
