Hi!
We all know the problem - there are loads and loads of great mods doing lots of different things, but it's such a hassle to get the best ones that don't create an incompatibility with another mod. Like Real U-Boat.
Wouldn't it be great if you could just download an "all in one" mod, that contains the best mods around, install it on top of your standard SH3 1.4b + RuB 1.43 install, and have all the goodies without having to worry about unexpected CTD's, bizarre graphical incompatibilities, etc etc? Without having to buy "Seewolves"?

Improved U-Boat aims to be that mod. :)
There are three main areas: graphical, aural, and gameplay related. The aim is to improve the game in a consistent way, and requires RuB first.
No, I can't make an non-RuB version. RuB changes too many files and more importantly, fixes too many bugs and stupid things in the game.
I'll release the readme and screenshots tomorrow. Until then, I'm looking for beta-testers to make sure everything works, and to give me time to contact all the mod authors whose great work I'm including in the mod.

Non-rub users won't get any sympathy from me, btw - I'm simply not making a non-rub version so there's no need to post. As said, RuB fixes a load of bugs and inconsistencies, even if a few changes are debatable.

All should be working together acceptably, they seem to be on my machine. Also I have a list of mod authors I need to contact so list should be considered provisional.
I suggest you include these mods (I use them with RUb 1.43):
1. Ail's dials, hi_res_moon v2.5 and smoke;
2. Ace's Hi Res Uniforms, Insignia and Medals Mk2;
3. Bordinstrumente 0.9;
4. Internal Life Mod v1.2;
5. SH3 Harbour Mod v2.0/2.1 (with harbour, tree, water and landscape mods);
6. CA_Officer_Icon_Mod v1.2;
7. Pascal's crew raincoats;
8. Rubini's Harbour Traffic for RUb 1.43 (new release soon)
They are "absolutely must have" for me.
I have such a modpack ready, but only for personal use.
To be serious, it´s two modpacks, one candy one that can be installed
over vanilla OR RUB 1.43 game, and one data one (small) which requires RUB.
I think such a collection of the best mods around is a good idea for players afraid
of messing up something with all those mods available (can happen very easy)

How about the idea splitting the mod into two parts. One failsafe with only candy (can be installed even over stock game) and a second one requires RUB?

Those are all included with the exception of aces skins - I've used Pascal's instead, as I think they're superior in detail and realism of texture despite being a smaller size.
Bordinstrumente - that changes the dials doesn't it? In which case I use WolfiesandRipbudsMerged dials instead.
The SH3 Harbour mod I use too, though without the terrain.cfg atm, as it messes up the visibility mod.

Thanks for the list! We seem to have similar tastes. Of course I am taking care as to the sound files - 44khz, 16bit, mono otherwise one risks crashes. I could release a "safe" version, its just I don't want to split up things confusingly.

How eerie - I run RUb1.43 with:

-IrishRed's Radiolog lite (proofread version)
All in perfect harmony.
Apart from the dials (Pascal's are brilliant BTW), not too dissimilar to your list. :up:
Of course, on top of this goes the mods included with SH3 Commander: Newsmod/radiomod, Merchant Variety Pack, Bismarck paint schemes and random merchant tonnage, copied in-and-out patrol by patrol.
I might wait till I see your final inclusion list, then I might give it a try.

Yeah, seems most of those in the know choose the same sorts of stuff! And its pretty surprising how lots of mod run fine together if you know how they work and how to install them. Of course it should be added I use SH3 Commander as well, so I tend to avoid anything that would conflict with it.
not all soundfiles have that 44100 16bit mono format.
Some are 22050, some are mono, some stereo. :down:

That is not bad.....
I am using a ALL IN ONE Mod with the best Mods inside which are available, for Realism, Optics, Sounds etc. ....
Using all with ME and my Mods directory is about 750 MB (Lot of music for Grammaphone....)
I can say that this Sim is maybe the bestone now, which i would like to have to buy.... the only thing which i miss, and i meen the only thing, are the Rudel of UBoats......
that is all i wanna to have now, because i have now with all those Mods that sim, i have waited so long....
Especially the Optical Mods like my transparency and CCIP, CameraMod (Slidein&out Mods, Clouds, textures and and and...)
are a huge improvement to this great Sim, which are u giving a feeling u were real there on your Boat on the Ocean.... :)
But it would be good to have a ALL IN ONE Mod whith the best mods which are responsible for now....
But it is a lot of MBs to get it online.....

This is exactly what I am looking for. I have so many mods installed now, hard to keep up. An all inclusive one is great.

Thank you for not giving me your symphatie, i don't want it :cry: ... (didn't know rub was THE mod, even if its almots perfect).
I simply can't use rub.
Every time i do, i have a bug with the ship camera, and the particles with the periscope are so bad (pixels) that i barely don't see any ships at all ....
Thats strange stratege; maybe you should get on to Beery and co about it. Are you sure you've installed over a clean SH3 + 1.4b?

I have used the engine sound from Das Boot (this caracteristic swisch-swosch sound) and made it more quiet and then used the enginesound from SH 2. This combination makes the boat quite silent from the front and more noisy at rear.

Internal Life Mod 1.2 by KptnLt Eric Karle - a 10.5minute seemlessly looping track containing sounds of human habitation. J'attendrai by Rina Ketty and It's a Long Way to Tipperary (20's version) – The classic tracks for your Gramophone so if you don't already have music for your gramaphone you have something more than a 'crackly' version of the SH3 title track – to include them all here would take too much bandwidth, but the “GermanHits” sound packs available at http://u-boat.realsimulation.com from which these two tracks are extracted come highly reccomended.
DDSound by sale999 – Improved, more 'aggressive' and distinct destroyer propellor sound.
Gameplay
Deck Gun 10 Second Reload Time by CCIP – Changes the deck gun reload time. Overwrites RUB setting, which is 60 seconds. SH3 default is 4 seconds. (data/Library/GUNS_SUB.sim)
Harbour Traffic for RuB 1.43 “Heavy” Version by Rubini – Harbour traffic, minefields, docked ships, friendly air patrols and subs start from inside sub pens. Overwrites RuB files. (data/Campaigns/Campaign/Campaign_LND.mis,CampaignSCR.mis,data/Menu/en_help.txt,data/Roster/German/Sea/PPL.cfg)
Conning Tower Tweak by hopkins32 – Pressing F4 while underwater now takes you to the conning tower position. Pressing F4 while surfaced brings you to bridge as normal.

Changed AI Flak gunner engage distance by oRGy – Now AI gunners can engage out to 1000m (long range), 500m (medium range), and 300m (close range). This changes the RUB setting of 300m (all ranges). SH3 default is 1500m (long range), 1000m (medium range), 500m (close range). Remember long range fire is liable to be less accurate.

Irishred's Radiolog (Lite) – Adds historical radio messages from BdU. Expanded version that includes historical radio traffic from uboats till May 1942 also included [include], simply overwrite the installed messages_en.txt with heavy_messages_en.txt if you want the expanded version instead. Slower Waterspeed by oRGy – This slows down the speed at which waves travel, meaning the submarine 'rides' the waves in a more realistic fashion.

I too am not a RUB user.. (Hmm I tell a lie, I am a HALF RUB user :rotfl: ) - I have taken the things out of rub that make it harder for me, or the things that I have different files for :D ..
But I'm now at the stage where I have got almost everything I need all setup in a ZIP file which when I have to reinstall SH3 I just drop the files into the MOD folder and away I go :)
My MOD file is a nice respectable 540mb in size.. (I don't have gramaphone stuff)
Buit anyway, thanks for all the trouble you have gone to, I am sure there will be others out there that will benefit by your hard work in putting it all together..

BTW, does anyone recall a mod from ages back that moved the command icons (of your NA, WO etc) from the centre of the screen to the left? It was a handy little trick, but I just can't recall it..

I love the MILK Mod, for MilkCows during Operation Paukenschlag...

I am using transparent Dials at the bottom with some slideout Mods, postet here:

I have so now (how u will see in that post) a transparent DialsBar and sliding in&out the Officer Icons and Message Field, fixed Maindials for rudder, speed and Depth.
Combined with CCIP`s fantastic 50 FOV CameraMod (which is outstanding) it is a damn realistic Feeling in the game! Enough and free visibility through whole gameplay.... Stupid Black background removed, and visibility increased a lot.... Fantastic!
FABC Slideout Panel for CO², Fuel, Air, Battery is also a must have for me! Just moving with the mouse at left side, and it slides out!
(i have removed the Yellow lines in the TGA, because it was stupid in nighttime, was to much shining.
Also the NavigationPanel at left top corner set a little bit to left side, so it is not still visible anymore (Mod by timetraveller).
Orgy, i am unsing a lot of slideout mods which are a huge improvement in the game.... like Slideout stopwatch etc.
Captain Americas 400 Meter Depthgauge a also a must have for me.... I have modded his TGA for transparency....
So, this is for all: If anyone is using different Dials at Bottom Panel, and he wants to use my transparency Mod, too. So just write me, i can change every Dials TGA, or Officers TGA and add the transparency to them like postet in the thread above....
It is no problem to change them, just TGAs.... finished in 1 Minute :)
Because i have made the transparency Dials Mod, and a lot of people are using another Dials or Officer Icons or so.... and so they can`t use it with transparencyMod. So i can made the important TGAs transparent. No problem ;)

Also, using the Harbourtraffic 1.45 which is great! UBoats with deckcrew....
Also a improvement (small) is my enlarged NaviMap Mod... so i have a large navimap... enlarged to the upper 3 corners of screen....
AirpowerMod 1.4c is also a must have for me! Great Mod which changes the complete dangerous of the Aircrafts in game. So u will not stay anymore at flakguns if spotted a enemy Aircraft, they are now a real danger for ur UBoat! More Armor, heavier bombs, better Bombattacks and much more.
Also using 10 KM visibilityMod, used before some time 20 KM visibility Mod, but it is too much and unrealistic, in night my WA spotted a target in 15 KM distance... crazy. At day it is alos too much... but they are still working on that mod! 10 KM Mod is a good compromisse for that!
Also using my Cleaned UZO&Peri views, where i deleted all unneccessary textures around the views. to get a feeling that i am really looking through Peri or UZO.... and it is much more visibility with the nerving textures around them... u see much more at night. Because everything around it isn`t shining anymore...
That are those things i have changed with those mods in my game.
Because at night u can`t see anything because of the shining of stupid textures in ur view (like, MenuBar at Bottom, Navalpannel at left side and so on....
Yeah, it is alot, but i have a fantastic gameplay now! I have the sim i wanted so long! The modding community here did so much for improvement of this great sim..... Thanks a lot to all Modders out there which have worked so hard.... and which are still working on... :)
My menu_1024_768.ini is now modded perfectly... with a lot of mods inside....
But all works great!
And a big thanks to the Man, who made the ModEnabler! Without this tool i were gone crazy :rotfl:

I know the FrontflottileMod, the RUB... i think they are good Mods, with the best and most important inside. I build my game bymyself with the best Mods i liked. But u can pick the best things out of them both and build ur own game by yourself to make it perfect!

I have done this:
Game runs perfectly now with all that Mods. So i just deactivated all Mods and Zipped the complete SilentHunterIII directory and saved it on DVD. So i dont have to reinstall anything anymore....
Just unzip, and it works all fine:)

I've added the visibility mod, the 'button mod', sergbuto's float planes, the fabc CE slideout, and a slightly edited version of bordinstrumente 0.9, as well as several other tweaks.
I'm still waiting on Rubini's latest version of HT and one or two other mods which have popped up recently.

This looks nice... This kind of project helps people that don't want to spend hours "in the diesel room" to have an up to date SH3, including the finest improvements made so far. :up:
And I'm one of those... can free some time to play, but can't free enough time to play AND look how the sim works.

I was originally going to make it dependent on having RuB 1.43 installed first, but I'm going to have it as a stand alone mod that incorporates most of RuB (if everyone is ok with that.) This makes it rather easier to install and gives me a little more flexibility, so I can put in late war air raids from Rubini for example.
As for options - well, the installer is going to be pretty simple so its unlikely - however all changes are logged in the readme file with accompanying file changes, and certain of the RuB settings will be specially included so RuB hardcore people can easily revert to them (like deck gun reload time, flak distance, and so on.)
I just have to finish up a few things and I'll send it to beta testers in a day or two!

oRGy - This sounds really good...there's alot on the list that I've wished I could try. Its especially good that its RUb and SH3 Commander compatable since I'd never want to give those up. Looking forward to this...your work is appreciated.

Hmm, I will probably reinstall SH3 when the beta is out. The problem with all these mods are that some of them are good, some bad. And its a pain to install them. Glad someone makes some choices and roll it up into a more or less cohesive package. Thanks oRGy, for choosing for me ^_^

I bought the game and received the copy today! I've been browsing around a few hours trying to handpick mods that seems intresting but it's alot! So finally i found this thread that answers all my problems... I'm new here and new to the game so to have someone experienced with the mod scene put together a big modpack is excellent for people like me. Keep up the great work oRGy and i hope you do release it soon. Won't play until i get your modpack :)

A slight hitch - its 180mb and terrapins server has an upload limit of 70. I've sent him a pm... Rapidshare has a limit of 50 I believe.

oRGy, you could use the "yousendit" service. They allow up to 1 giga and very easy to use. It's a temporary solution perhaps since they delete the file after 7 days or 25 downloads. But i could upload the file also after i get it to prolong it until you solve the storage problem?!

I'll try that yousendit thing later today so. I just need to make some modifications to the sensor files.
Rubini - this is a public beta as it were just to make sure there's no hidden evil bugs or things people hate in it. Will add for sure your work when its released in a week or so? Then I can release "v1 official" and spam it everywhere, and then I might go and have a break.

be sure you have downloaded COMPLETE. mine just not did the first time and i got that error. (dl after with Flashget and just completed 186 Mb)

I see you have included my terrain mod in this pack, but you forgot the tree mod, which makes the trees look more realistic especialy during wintertime, thats a shame... otherwise a great compilation :up: allthoug I think the water is to dark...
