Hi everyone....OK, I've read the entire thread concerning cloning an object by Chris, and I watched with awe some of the things you folks have been doing.....I want to play too! :-j

I've owned .NET software for three years now (bought as a student at a deep discount), but I never had a reason to use it until now...

Basically, my question is....should my editing files look like this (using the Stuka.dat file as an example)?

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a288/stljeffbb/picture009.jpg

I can see how comments are to the right, and all the the data is neatly lined up with a hexnumber assigned to each row (not unlike old BASIC, which, until my recent forays into automated trading systems in currencies, programming in the platform's home languages (one is not dissimilar to C++, the other is easier) BASIC was the only programming language I knew. and that was about 20 years ago!)

I assume that each hex number refers to a part of some functionality of the plane, and, for example, to add a searchlight on a stuka, you would add the proper hex ID in the proper spot in the right columns identified by the left column hex number.....

Thanks for any replies!

-Jeff

Hey i have Visual Studio.Net, our work gets microsoft packs given to us, every two yrs, we never use visual studio so its just stored away, but since reading your thread, i might install it. But what has VS got to do with SH3???
Was SH3 programmed using VS?

When u install VS.net why all the different logins that come up?

Sorry this doesn't answer your question.

hi kiwi_2005.....I'm not sure what you mean by logins, however, I think I've figured out the difference between the text labels and their hex ID, and the actual item IDs....these files can certainly be edited by the .NET software.....however, I will also be checking out some of the other hex editors that have been recently posted in another thread

Happy Modding!
