For my own use, when creating the Karlsruhe cruiser, i made this list of some available weapons in SH3 for use in the eqp-file of the ships.
Now, i have added all available weapons and some comments, where these weapons can be found in the game :)

Note for the community-gunners: The guns will not work on your boat, except the special sub's guns. ;)

Very nice, thanks. Just what I was looking for

One thing I'd like to have done with this for RUb is replacing as many 20mm guns on enemy vessels as possible. Why? Because 20mm ammo efficiency is dialed way down in RUb to make planes harder to shoot down.

I've already had some success, like by putting up a twin 40mm MG on those elcos (looks cool, too) :hmm:

Try arming Bismarck only with 40 mm Quadruples and let her sail right into Portsmouth-harbour - very impressive look when hundreds of shells explode near the aircrafts.... :D ;)

I've tried this but when I come to re-save the file I get a screen asking me which format I want to save it in and it defaults to a txt file.
Also I tried swapping a piece of equipment for something else but it didn't work, again it defaulted to a txt file if I tried to save it, what am I doing wrong?

jep, this a windows-prob. There is a way to avoid this, but i can't remember. I did the following: Copy the eqp file and place it in an alternate folder. Than edit the original-file in your data/sea/ship-directory and simply "save" it´, not "save as"

Thanks Commander, I tried copying the file to a different location then altering it then re-saving but I still got the message about a path and it wanted to save it as a txt file.
I did save it as a txt file then re-named it to eqp but the alterations didn't show, I'm obviously not doing it right.

Which programm do you use for editing? The standard text-editor?

Is the filename after renaming "yourship.txt.eqp" or "yourship.eqp"?

if it is named *.txt.eqp try rename it with that DOS-like Window (do not know the english name for it - "Dos Prompt?")

Or is the data in the file actually unchanged from the original?

If yes, open an empty txt-file, copy all content from the original eqp file, change you entries and then rename the new file as the eqp file you need.

I was opening it with Notepad then altering it then re-saving, I'll try the method you suggested above, thanks again.

if all else fails COL try making the changes and then closing the notepad window with the X in the top right courner --it will ask you if you want to save your changes click yes- this might work..tho must be a windows setting some where that doesnt allow you to over write the original file (check your security settings perhaps --allow file over write? at least on the desk top)
or right click on the file and selct properties to see if it's been designated as "read only" if so deselect the option and apply and try again..
