Okay, so I read the earlier thread on the new camera mod and I decide to try it out... all casual like...

Background info: the external view using "< & >" keys showing your boat or other boats locked as the axis of view... gives me crappy framerates and can be quite choppy.

ANYWHOOO.... I load up the "LOW" Cameras .dat file and start flipping through views while driving my boat.... and I switched to F12.... and BANG BAM BOOOOOOOM.... My FPS SHOT through the ROOF... with no loss of particulate effects!

The F12 view used to make my PC work much harder. Now there is no chop or jerkiness... it moves like marbles on glass!

MY POINT... I will give you my first born, car keys, permanant refridgerator rights, and most of my coffee if you would PLEASE alter the mod to include the same type of view used in "low" F12 for the < and > keys. A lesser zoom setting may of course be required... but anything is better than the stock view.

Furthermore, when I win the lottery... half of it is yours. All I ask to keep is my PC and my dogs.

You may have inadvertantly stumbled upon a fix for those of us stuck with graphics cards that are "middle-of-the-road."

My specs: AMD ATHLON XP3200, FX5700LE 256mb gfx, 1024mb DDR3200 RAM (x2 512 dual channelled) blah blah blah... from what I've read, my gfx card is the weak link... und mine pockets are empty!

I've already dumped buckets of money into my PC. It would be really nice if I was through for awhile and could resume eating.

Well, I'm off to the station for another 24 hours of mayhem and destruction. I know you said that it was the final version... but would you please release a second final version sir?

Prost und Happy Hunting!

Your fps might have shot up, but bear in mind that's because you're vewing less with a lower FOV.

LOW Cameras.dat is what - a fov of 50? Or less? Default it 90.

I thought of that... however even when zooming out the increase in FPS is consistent. My system simply runs better with it.

Have you tried the mod Orgy?

Default is 75, not 90.

My mistake.

Would try the mod but my graphics card is ****ed at the moment. :/

Ok, I admit, I had to look it up:

• FOV (Field of View)

maximum "looking" ability of a camera from an existing standpoint

I believe LowCameras.dat has a 25 FOV... like looking through a crack in a picket fence...

Yes, the external camera is 25. I plan to put up a 50-FOV version for internal cameras shortly, too.

Interesting, but I guess it makes sense. I noticed that the game engine manages to avoid rendering things that are off-camera (that's why you get FPS slowdowns when looking directly at oil fires, but it goes back to normal when you look away). I also noticed it renders some things only at certain angles (for instance, with the 25 FOV external camera, you now see the moon's reflection on the ocean, but you couldn't in the default game unless you used binoculars).

So anyway, thanks for the note. I think the all-lowered-FOV cam will help in more than one way. Myself... I still prefer 75 for everything but the free cam :)
