I'm going crazy here. I followed the directions. I d/l the zipped file onto my desktop. i unzipped the folder. when i did that i got another folder labled SH3 Commander. I double clicked on that folder and it had 14 files/folders. so i back arrowed to the original SH3 Commander folder. i dragged and dropped it into my Silent Hunter III program folder. when i open up the Silent Hunter III i see in this order the following subfolders.
+data
documentation
+SH3 Commander
+support
i open up the SH3 Commander folder, click on the SH3 Cmdr icon and the program opens up.
heres the problem. I get a generic screen. no pics displayed of the commanders. i have the option of choosing a new career. when i click on the RN button, it gives me options to choose a name i click on the name, it displays it in the name box. after that nothing happens. i then click on launch SH3 button and it takes me into the sim. I never see any those demo samples that are displayed on the SH3 Commander download page. no history, no crew options.
what am i doing wrong?
looking forward to any help.

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. When you start a new career via SH3 Commander, it loads your new career as the default career in SH3 and it randomises your crew names, but it doesn't automatically get you into the year and flotilla you chose - that has to be done in SH3 itself. All SH3 Commander does is load the right game files for the selection you chose. You copy the choices you made in SH3 Commander and SH3 Commander has changed the game to suit your choices. So if you choose a 1941 date in SH3 Commander it will load 1941 skins and data files so that when you're in the game you'll see and hear sights and sounds from 1941 (like ship paint schemes and radio messages). The commander images, histories and crew options are only available in SH3 Commander - SH3 itself doesn't have the functionality to enable it to show those things or give those options.

Beery, maybe this has to be made more clear and apparent in SH3C's next release's documentation. This is definitely a FAQ. :yep:

thank you for answering my question. i understand about inorder to view the commander images, histories, crew options, etc, i need to run the SH3 Commander program. thats the probel...when i do run the program none of tose things come up. i noticed in a new post a guy asked about saving a game in mid patrol. thats wht i have done. i ahve not completed a patrol whileunder SH3 Commander. does that have something to do with my problem? Also, pertaining to that mid patrol post, it was suggested not to keep activating the 'real time' option, or it will speed up the retirement option. i never even saw that real time option.
i do appreciate you trying to help. any suggestions?

The 'realistic length' option is just a little checkbox at the bottom of the main SH3 Commander window. You can either leave it enabled or deselect it, and your choice will be saved for future careers or patrols.

As for the saving in mid-patrol issue, there's the problem. The game only saves career info after you finish your first patrol. Until then you won't see any career info in SH3 Commander.

one quick question. when i unzip the SH3 Commander file, do simply unzip it in the SH III folder, or do i unzip it in the SH III data folder?

The SH3 Commander folder can (if I recall correctly) go anywhere. I put mine in the SH3 folder, but I don't think you're forced to.

This is correct. Mine's elsewhere on my C drive. It obtains SH3's installation folder path from Windows registry.
