i realize w/out the sdk there's very little chance of getting a "calling the mark" mod that's been discussed previously. how could one go about changing the current realistic plotting mod to allow precise visualization of ships that you can see thru the scope or from the bridge? ie keep the imprecise nature of hydrophone contacts (as at present w/ the dashed line) but show the ship icons of ships visually detected -- or even better, only the single ship you are currently locked on? In order to somewhat simulate having a tracking crew.

This is a great idea. The idea that a blank map is realistic is false. The dev team really dropped the ball on this one, many map features of ShII were better than SHIII, such as the ability to drop map notes. The most difficult part of attacking a convoy is keeping track of the ship you are looking at. With a tracking or fire control party they would plot the location of each ship as you gave the range and bearing.

I have no idea what can be done or how to do it, but anything would be an improvement over what we have now. I hope someone can come up with something. Joe S

I wholeheartedly agree. I know the RUb team is working on it. contacts appear when zoomed out... but disappear when zoomed in.

Contacts within 900-1000 meters are INVISIBLE in the current 1.43 mod. :nope:

Generally speaking, at first glance, it looks a little backwards.

I believe what they are working towards is all grey contacts with decreasing info-accuracy the farther out you go.

Its hard to be patient sometimes. Once the big mods stabilize. (I'm guessing within about 3 months.) Greater options will invariably become available.

what i was thinking was change the ship icon to a grey dot -- but have the dot biased off center (if we call center the ships actual position) -- that way, there's already some inherent inaccuracy, and as the position of the dot/circle/whatever relative to center would change with the target's course, so you would limit the players anticipation/self-correction of that inaccuracy.

I have no idea how the ship icons are set up, but if they're similar to the u-boats (eg a dot when zoomed out, then the bearing overlay when close up -- what i'm getting at is different icons for different zoom ranges) you could have the icons for zoomed out maps further off center, and gradually decrease inaccuracy for the smaller scale charts. but then you'd have to rely on players to resist the urge to zoom in on each individual target and mark it.

like i said, i've no idea how the ship icons are implemented in practice, and i don't have an art program to look at the tgas myself, so please tell if i'm just being dumb. idle speculation is all.

Is possible use the deffault map in RUB ??

i found too difficult (almost impossible) plot the contacts and know the target course in a blank map. :nope:

i´m learning now how use the manual tdc and using the plot tools, but RUB its too difficult for me :88)

despite this is a great mod.
