Alright, here is an update - hopefully the final one - for my camera mod.

It should appeal to the FreeCam abusers and high-realism players alike, as it removes many of the restrictive limits on angles and heights of cameras, inside and outside.

It's fully compatible with RUb and all other mods I currently know of.

New to this edition are removed limits from Conning Tower, Attack Periscope, Deck and Flak Gun (view only - not firing) rotation angles; and two new options for Free Camera angles (you can now choose from 25, 50 and 75 for your free camera FOV, depending on your preference).

FEATURES:

Free Camera
- narrower angle (for better sense of scale and less distortion at screen edges)
- finer rotation control
- faster movement speed with "shift"
- height limit increased to 2000m (from only 70 before!)
(UPDATED FOR VERSION 2)
- Default FOV angle changed to 50 (from 57.265 in v1)
- Two alternative files included for High (75 - unmodded game setting) and Low (25 - zoomed-in!) FOV settings.

Follow Object Camera
-slightly narrower angle

Conning Deck Camera
-no more small downward limit! (you can look down to the floor if you want to now)
-a much more "3D" camera, thanks to shifting it a little off the center of rotation

Crew Position Cameras and Captain's Bed
-no more rotation limits (except upside down)
-a more "3D" camera

Conning Tower and Attack Periscope Cameras (new in v.2)
-no more rotation limits (except upside down)

Flak and Deck Gun Cameras
-up/down restrictions removed for the view - but although you can look around freely,
this does not affect the guns' minimum/maximum depression angles (in other words, you still
can't shoot your WO, even if you'd like to).

INSTALLATION:

Recommended setting:
-Place Cameras.dat to your SilentHunterIII/data/Library folder.

If you would like the High or Low FOV free camera:
-Rename the file of your choice (FOV Hi - Cameras.dat or FOV Low Cameras.dat) to Cameras.dat,
and place it in your SilentHunterIII/data/Library folder.

=> Don't forget to backup your original Cameras.dat file just in case -
but make sure you move the backup out of the Library folder (even if you renamed it!)

I think the LOW Camera Mod with the ,,zoomed in" effect is one of the best mods i have ever seen for SHIII!
It gives u that feeling in free cam to be realy there...


My Question to u:

- Have u changed the position of view on deck/Bridge?
Because it looked alittle bit more 3D on Bridge...

- Is it possible to make the viewing Point, while beeing on the Bridgeview, like the one in freecam? I mean, can u mod that view, while u are on the F4 Bridge like the one, zoomed in like on freecam?

Because the freecam is like zoomed, which looks absolutely fantastic to me.

Moving on freecam over the bowes and waves.... that looks like i would be there, so intensiv!

I would like to have the same view on Brdige and in the Commandroom/Zentrale! That would gave this sim a completely new and much more intensiv I-AM-THERE-ON-THE-BRIGDE-FEELING!!!

That would be the nonplusultra for me!!!

Can u tell me how u changed and which values u changed in the Camera.dat? I know its done with Hexeditor....

But where and what can i do to get so a real intensiv view on deck and Zentrale???

No, it hasn't been changed. It's the exact same as before.

But what I noticed is that it actually seems to be a little bit random within certain limits. For example, try to spin the camera around quickly for a bit, and you'll notice that the position of it actually changes a little. I don't know how it works. All I know is that you sometimes get neat angles by spinning the camera.

That's the thing I want most in the game. Unfortunately, from my recent conversations with TimeTraveller, we realized it can't really be done right now.

Doing that would require adding new triggers into the file, which would basically mean creating a new cameras.dat file ourselves instead of editing the one we have. And we just don't know enough about Ubi's .dat file structure to be able to do that. We can only change the existing values for existing triggers, but we can't add new ones.

So now, that can't be done with anything I know of. Only the devs or someone who could build a working .dat file from scratch would be able to do it :(

There is a Zentrale free camera, however! Shift + F2. Of course, the FOV there is left the same as before - it looks really strange when you make the FOV lower (it looks like your sub is huge inside, which isn't really right).

What i meaned was not to have a Freecam on the bridge to walk around on bridge... NOT THAT!



I meaned the effect on Bridgeview, the same effect (Zoomed in) u have added to the free Camera, that effect i would like to have on the "F4 Bridge - View".


Walking on the bridge around isn`t moddable right know, i know.
I would like to have that zoomed in effect on Bridge view and commandroom if possible..... But only on bridge it would be a very intensiv feeling to stand on the bridge....


Or meaned u that it isn`t possible to mod so a effect to the Bridgeview?

I like this effect very much.... i am sure that it would be great to have it on all inside camera views...

OK, it would be great if u could modd only the bridgeview!

Maybe to test with the ZOOM factor which u have in the LOW Mod in freecam, and maybe not bad to test also with only half the factor of the actually mod....

I would like to test all values to find the right ones for me, for all that views inside tha sub. From Hydrophon to the Conningtower....


I would do this bymyself with a hexeditor... but i have no idea what to do with all that numbers inside.... and which one to change to get what?

I'm not sure if I read it right so I'll ask, can or is there an external view of the player sub that can be LOCKED-ON so I don't need to keep using the arrow keys to keep up with it all the time?

I know if I press the (.) key I can see another ship if it is in the area but it would be cool if it locked on the player sub the same way like you could in SH2.

That feature is in the game. But you must have patch 1.3 or higher for that.

Works like a charm for me with 1.4b :hmm:

I'll try to make a few variations of the mod in the next couple of days, with internal views and whatnot. :)

No, again, that would require new triggers.

I would LOVE to add new cameras to the game. Many new cameras. Cameras that would let us walk the deck, or conning tower cameras that would bob in the waves and so on. But again, unless we get someone who can build new SHIII .dat files from scratch, that would be impossible, because otherwise we're only left with editing existing triggers and not adding any new ones. :(

If this ZOOMED IN Effect is possible also for the Binoculars and Persicope Views to add?

I mean, that zoomed in effect to have also at the binoculars and Periscope viewing circles....

Because that effect is real, like the real human eyes while watching at or through something. How it is in the freecam now.... that is wonderfull!

All cameras and views in the game should be so! So u would have the feeling to be really there, on the sub and inside the sub!

When i am going near a big Cargo, i have the feeling that i could jump on the deck or bridge of the ship! Imagine, if u would stand on the deck of the Bridge of ur Uboat, how would u see with ur eyes everything? It would be like the sight in freecam with zoomed in effect!!!

I also noticed that movement feature in the game with the cameras, 2 months ago....


I think it simulates the steps of your view as human body while turning yourself around!


Imagine: when u are standing and make a turnement of 360 Degrees, your position will be al ittle bit away from your old one, because ur legs are stepping alittle bit away....


I am sure that it is so simulated in the sim, alos too.

A nice detail in the game!

I'm not sure what you mean for the periscope - do you want to make the zoom level of the scope itself higher? I think that can be done. :hmm:

Meanwhile, I put the 25 FOV on the Shift-F2 Camera for now just for testing.

To me, it looks really strange and very disorienting. But try and see if you like it yourself - then if you do, tell me and I can change the other cameras as well! :up:

Ok CCIP, i feel a little bit shame to ask you now, if u could please make one Testcamera.dat file for me, with only the Half ZoomedIn Values for inside camera views, like the one SHIFT+F2, or the bridge view (Conning tower F4).
I know what u meaned with looking strange and disorting....

So i would really like to see how the half zoomfactor(which u have now in free camera mode of your LOW) would came across in the Bridge view.....

Could u please make one test file for me with only the half zoom factor in that view? Because it could be a little bit too much of zoomin in the inside views..... maybe

U now that Viewing circle in the periscope view!? The small circle which u are seeing the things outside.

That viewing circle, to have with that zoomedin effect like on the freecam!


I am sure that it would be a great and intensiv feeling to look then through the Binoculars and Periscope with that effect!

Because u would feel like watching really through the Periscope....

Yes. You certainly can. That's what it was made with, albeit the angle is slightly less narrow. Use the "Low" version if you want to get views with a massive sense of scale :)

CCIP, as the external cam addict I am, I love this mod.

Do you know if it is possible to make the bridge view like it is in interior view (F2)? Like you get the impression that the sub is really moving up and down through the waves, etc.

Kind of a 'latency' or 'inertia' view, if you understand what I mean. It would be awesome to stand on the bridge and get the feeling that the boat is really moving under your feet.

There is a mod for MS Flight Sim called 'Active Camera' that features this while you're in the cockpit. It really gives a new depth to the sim.

No, unfortunately. In fact, I originally started this mod when someone asked me if that can be done - and though I found that it wasn't, I did come up with some other neat stuff :)

It's the same problem as with adding new cameras. Stuff like that requires new triggers, meaning re-making the .dat file from scratch. And noone here including TimeTraveller knows enough about Ubi's in-house format (created with something called Kashmir I believe, which is a closed tool in Ubi dev houses and cannot be legally accessed by anyone else).

So I guess not without an SDK :(

BTW I asked a similar question some months ago, and received a similar response then (although not so detailed). I just had a slight hope that you or someone else had found a way to crack this, but I guess we just have to hope for the SDKs.

I haven't played much since my wife had the baby but tonight I installed your Lo FOV Camera Mod and I'm just staggered how great this is. Thank you for this CCIP, the effect is stunning I can't believe the feeling of perspective. I;m currently in the middle of a storm and the waves look enormous. This is the best mod so far thanks again :up:

So great intensive Views in this great sim! When u go to free cam, u look at the waves and u think u are really there... it is like the human eyes....

Let`s wait what CCIP will bring us with the new testversion....

Imagine u have that view through your Binoculars while standing on the Bridge..... damn, can`t wait for CCIP`s testversion.... :D

CCIP, Does the camera mod also include the bridgeview enhancements I mentioned in one of the former topics?

I am talking about putting the bridgeview on the VII's down 10cm (same height as crew) and forward by one meter so can see more of the bow, giving a more imersive 'boat feeling' instead of a floating conning tower.

Ok, it's that time at last! :)

Test it out!

50FOV for everything except the external free cam which is at 25, and the periscopes/UZO... I left them default because I'm not entirely familiar with editing their zoom levels.

Another question, what program do you use to edit the .dat files? I want to try putting the Bridgeview forward by a meter or so to see more of the bow. (VIIB/C's only)

An FOV of 50 will give you an immersive 'movie' feel, as its the same fov that camers use (roughly).

However the human eye has an fov of about 120-140 - though its complicated, you ignore much of the information and concentrate on fov 75-90, which is why most fp games have an fps of 75-90.

I once had a C2 in my scope just like the above.....I was hunting in fog in my IIA, using hydro only....I guessed where it was, only too well....next thing, here it comes! I just missed it, and it never even noticed me until I sank her later, of course!! :rock:

I really like the feeling of claustrophobia it gives you in the Control room and the bridge and outside zoom views are superb.

I like how the low FOV camera makes you feel like youre there, good for movies and such. But when youre in the thick of combat trying to frantically look around it can be quite dizzying. :lol:

the Mod is perfect how it is!


-Did u add the same effect to the Followingboat camera? I mean the camera which is used with the comma button, which is staying by the ship.

-Is it possible to add the same 50 FOV effect to the binoculars view?

I'll try it with UZO/Periscopes and Binoculars - not 100% sure if it'll work, but we can always try (I haven't really looked into how zoom levels work).

I can also bring back a wider angle for the flak guns, for example, in case the narrow angle makes it confusing during action - that could probably help, and you'd still have the 'zoomed' view whenever you wanted (by changing the zoom level). :hmm:

The Views on Flak and Deckgun are great how they are now! :up:

But the thing in Uzo, Binoculars and Persicope would be really fantastic..... but it is not so important, but would be a great improvement!


The mod is fantastic how it works now..... the other things are not soooo much important, i think. :)

Thanks for the latest version of this wonderful Mod CCIP. I tried it out last night with Beery's new Night Sky/Water Mod and the combined perspective and claustrophobia was incredible. This has made such a difference to the whole experience.

After getting to visit the U-505 in Chicago (I lived only four blocks from a U-boot! :rock:) and see how small the inside of these boats were, I felt like SH3's interiors were too comfortably spacious. I never really felt the claustrophobia necessary to the full depth charge experience. just a small question! Hey, i know i am nerving u with those things... :lol:


Alright, is it possible to add the same FOV (zoom) Factor to the GowithOutsideCamera which u get when u are pressing Button "," komma?

And second: is it possible to make the range/limitation of distance decreased from now 100 meter to 1000 meter? So we could enjoy the moving with the Boat with a fantastic Zoom factor how u have it in F12 Freecam, and we could so run with the boat and look at it from a distance of 1000 meters or so.......!?


that would be great... a lot of people would enjoy that intensive feeling... :)

Then i could do this bymyself.....

But i am a stupid idiot in editing Hexvalues :damn:

I have no idea what Values are for what.....

I only see when oden the dat.files with a hexeditor, i only see there
a salat of numbers.....

Hi CCIP

First, sorry my english.

Im using this great mod, but I have problems with it. When I press F12 the cam move itself to many meters underwater. I have to move it to the surface but it automaticaly returns to underwater, perhaps 60 or 100 meters, I am not sure how deep. Also it is impossible to look at a specific direction because it starts to spin in another direction. The camera respond to mouse movements just for a while (0.5 seconds), then spins horizontally. Other times it had spun with the horizontal inclined 45 degrees to the rigth.... you see the horizon like a right slash = " / "
This happens once each two times I load the game.

A time ago CCIP released a version of his CAM mod with angle FOV 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 75 default, 75 modded, 90, 100, 110, 120 and 130 = 13 files total :yep: :yep: :up: .
These files worked fine to me, but sadly I erased them after installed the actual version 2 :cry:.
Anybody knows where can I find them again? :sunny::
