RUb Black Screen on startup

I've looked around but I couldn't any threads on this problem of mine.

I've installed RUb (1.42 and now 43) on a clean SHIII 1.4b.

I start SHIII, get a black screen and nothing else happens. I have to kill the sim.

I've tried installing the components of RUb individually and it seems that the Harbour Traffic mod is the key one. I can install pretty much everything else OK (using JGME) but the Traffic Mod causes this problem - well that's how it seems.

I'm doing the re-install dance again but in the meantime any suggestions?

The Traffic mod is not compatible with RUb 1.43. If you install it over the top of RUb 1.43 you will missing the Ops mod SCR layer.

I will make a compatible version in a few days. ;)

Yes I understand that. I'm not 100% certain the traffic mod is the problem.

I've tried RUb 1.42 and 1.43 on my install (cleaned each time of course) and get this problem.

So I've now tried each of the major elements of RUb individually (without RUb installed). Harbour Traffic seems to be the one when (even by itself) I get this black screen.

This may seem like an odd question but does the game take longer to startup with the traffic mod installed? I've left it sitting for about 5 mins in total - could it be it just takes longer to get to the menu....

Anyways I'll try and track this down a little more.

No, the traffic mod don't raise your loading time, don't CTD, don't have black screen and don't drops your FPS alot. :hmm:

I think that you have some problem with your installation. RUb 1.42 already have a special version of traffic mod on it. Rub 1.43 have the Ops mod wich is incompatible with traffic mod for now. I recomend that you install in order (only this):a fresh SH3, patch 1.4b and RUb 1.43. Try it and post a feedback later. :know:

Yes the Traffic Mod (1.44 only) does seem to be OK now - that was on a "clean" 1.4b. So I'll try RUb 1.43 again.

Well I don't know if this will make any sense to anyone but so far this is what seems to work for me with RUb 1.43 (and 1.42 I guess but not tried it with that).

Since my game seemed to hang on startup (no menu or anything, just a black screen) I figured I'd install RUb 1.43 and then put the intro movies back so I could see how far the app got before locking up.

I'm using JSGME btw, so I went to the BACKUP folder, and copied the original intro movies to the normal location and renamed the 0 byte movies.

Started the game, got both movies, the loading screen and the game works good (v. good in fact!).

So I then went back, replaced the original movies with the 0 byte RUb ones and I get the black screen problem again.

Maybe it's something to do with media player on my system or something. It's a little late now, but I'll probably play with it again tomorrow and see if anything interesting turns up.

I'm having the same problem (black screen and game hangs on startup), and I don't have the Traffic Mod installed, only RUB 1.43. This is also after a fresh install of SH3 patched to 1.4b. I'll try messing with the intro movies, and see if it works for me too.

My system crashes with both the normal intro files and the 0 byte replacements, so I deleted them. They play fine when I open them in Mediaplayer. I simply ignore this, because SH3 is the only game with this problem...

Well try putting the intro movies back in - that seemed to fix it for me.

I did try opening the 0 byte RUb provided movies and my copy of Media Player (had 9 upgraded to 10) complains the files are corrupt or for the wrong version.....

The movies from the SHIII DVD opened fine in both 9 & 10 of Media Player.

I can't really see how this would cause the game to hang though - perhaps there's a system setting which isn't quite right.

For now though I guess I'll just leave the movies in.

Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit here, but I saw that you're releasing a RUb compatible version of harbour traffic soon, which is great news.

I love the new RUb, but Bergen felt very lonely now. Thank you for your work with the great harbour traffic mod! :up:

I intend to release a traffic mod version compatible with RUb 1.43 in 3 or 4 days (although it's already done), because Beery and team need to listen the feedback of the community about the "clean" RUb 1.43. And this new version have traffic in more harbours and a few new goodies.
