View Full Version : Multiple Skin Ships Request

I've been interested in creating several new skins for the Tribal Class destroyer and other single-skinned vessels; however, I don't know what part of the dat file controles the paint schemes. How do you modify this file to enable the use of the texture system that most merchants have, where the tga's are in data/sea and multiple skins are enabled? I looked at the dat files with a hex editor but I have no idea where to begin. Please help out; I'd hate to have my research go to waste. :(
You need to ask serg, I don't think he ever explained how he did it.
Hwever, looking at some of them in a hex editor, certain lines are important. cfg#TXR_ seems to replace the standard ship texture file name... There are more changes than this though.

I can't explain the editing proceedure only in words, this requires some screenshots of the hex-editor page. But unfortunately I am away from my computer, where SH3 is installed, for some time (for one and a half week). The only thing I am able to say right now that your reasearch, iambecomelife, should not go to waste in any case because I have made quite a few multi-skinned warships, including Tribal, and use them in my SH3 installation. I just did not bother to update my multi-skinned warship mod on my site because these ships are lucking full texture sets.

sergbuto, can u please release the full multiple skins mod??
and can u modify the bismark file so that the skins automatically change in the correct yrs?
if not can u tell us how to add new skins to the unlocked ships.
AND...
can u tell us how to unpack the textures or where are all the sh3 tex and how to open them??

hey King, there is a tool out there the SH3 Unpacker tool; that letq you look for the textures inside the ships and Uboats "dat" files.
then you can repaint the TGa files. :D
I d love to have the Fletchar and somers "unloacked"
or simply know how to do it myself, without begging and bugging people :(

I have modifoied surface ships' weaponry and its is possible to made new ships by editinf ther weapons - M class destroyers or Codrington leader, for example, but each time I add new ship to the game the old one which was used as basis deisapears. Thus, с Class is missed whenn I add Codrington. Changing names of failes and C&Ds in its dat file by hex editor doesn't help. Could you advise how to add new ships? :arrgh!:

There's a thread by The Orzel which is a tutorial to clone objects in order to create new objects...I've had very little success with it, but maybe you're more advanced than I am. PLease take a look and see if that helps...if it does, I may be back to pick your brain :D
