I have a list of a few mods im interested in. Im looking for info people have on them plus Im open to other mods that fit my criteria. Im basically looking for more immersion and realism for my 1.4b install.

For all mods listed Im looking for the same basic info:
Has anyone tried it, any issues, will it be compatable with the other mods on the list? Questions specific to the mod will be listed below it.

Here is what im looking at so far:

*Merchant Variety Pack-Early war edition, v1.0


*Sansal's Milk Cow mod
I assume its like ending your mission at a base other than your home port.

* Realistic Hull Skin mod

* Military Mod series
What is the searchlight upgrade?

* RealDamage mod 1.3
Is this a 1.3 or 1.4b mod? Is the sub damage changes more realsitic or is more of a preference thing?

* RealUboat 1.42
What are the specifics of the Airpower mod by Jace11
What are the specifics of the Traffic mod by Rubini
What are the specifics of the Realistic Plotting mod by GouldJG

I know everyone's rigs are different, Im trying to get as good a concensus as I can get...heresay is acceptable :)

If you have other mods you think I'd like, please feel free to list them, but also make sure to address the above basic questions.

If you are looking for a good hullskin, try out the ones from Konrad Krumm
(or just Kumm, don´t know, sorry Konrad)

They can be downloaded at terrapin`s side (like everything else)

Filenames are "NSS_Uboat7c_Camo" "NSS_Uboat7c_Camo_rusty"
and "NSS_Uboat7c_No_Camo"
The nocamo version is my favorite.

The ship skins by JuJu (Military Mods, Merchant Mods) are also highly recommented.

Rubinis traffic mod will add traffic to Axis and allied ports and you will have an escort when leaving harbour.
Very good mod, but there will be an update soon, i read yesterday. Before installing save your career in port.

If you want to use Airpower mod and the hollywood damage mod you have to merge the 2 zones.cfg files.
Instructions included in Airpower mod.

The Airpower mod tries to make airattaks more realistic. Planes are harder to shot down (armour increased)
and your FLA weapons are slightly "downgraded"
(effective range reduced) there is a lot of more tweaked with Airpower installed, a great mod.

When installed you will piss your pants when a plane is sighted (sorry) don´t try to shoot it out with them, you´ll loose :)


But today is a bad time to start modding the game, so many updates are announced and great new stuff is in sight.
I´m also waiting for the new mods, sitting here with an unmodded
Game. Last week it was modded like hell, but i have a copy of the vanilla 1.4 game, so i can return to the stock version easily.
Has helped me many times when something has gone wrong with modding.

I like the smoke mod and the bow spray/wake mod. The smoke mod is awesome.

Don't think the milk cow mod will allow docking to base, it's surely just for refueling at sea, diesel only. I'm not using it, so I don't know for sure.

I use and recommend you this pack of "must have" mods:

1. Aces_SH3_Hi_Res_Uniforms_Insignia_and_Medals_Mk2 (the best mod for uniforms of your crew, with very good hi-res textures);
2. Ail Hi Res Moon v2.5, Ail Dials Mod, Ail Navigation Map Mod, Ail Sky Mod v2, Ail Smoke Mod and Ail Wake Mod v2 (outstanding, Ailantd is one of the best modders);
3. Harbour_Traffic_1.44 (adds extra ships and traffic for friendly ports, now your base looks real);
4. Harbour_Mod 2 pack (it includes harbour mod, landscape mod, tree mod and water mod);
5. SHIII Flag Mod (hi-res flags);
6. Swastika Mod (no comment);
7. Bordinstrumente_0.9 (new hi-res dials, new hydrophone, very good).
8. My own sound pack, with .wav files from other sound mods, more realistick than standart.

With this mods SH3 looks much better than stock version.

Doesn't work like that. It is like finishing at a port other than your home one. It basically gives you a naval base unit at sea and ties it into a ship which is quite a nice idea.

so i use the Real Uboat mod... be carefull when coming home to port... people dont move out of the way for you, so make sure you look out they love to turn across you're bow! :doh:

Great, I'll wait a little longer as advised, but Im leaning toward everything except the RealUboat and RealDamage(Not sure if they are really "real" and the airpower mod doesnt do much for me since I've dived for airplanes since day one. The Harbor and Rubini's Harbor traffic mods sound good If I can get em seperate.

And if you didn't like the damage in older RUb.... you wait 'til 1.43's brand-new damage model is out :up:

(welll.... I'm sorta biased there as you imagine, since I put together that damage model... but trust me, it should be much better than any other model we've seen before! :) )

I dont know enough about the damage model in RUB, give us some specifics. Whats your motivation behind the mod, more realism or perference? What did you feel was wrong with the stock model, what was unliked about the previous/current RUB damage model. Why do think or know your model is better or more accurate?


What I fear most is modding my install and it turns out to be more Hollywood and easy mode. It seems so many mods are made to make things easier and though Im sure some of it is valid, I cant help that much of them is for stroking our own in-game ego. I dont want things any easier or harder than they ought to be...though I do want and understand the need to have dynamic difficulty in-game.
Im driving myself nuts trying to sift through all the available mods and then trying to get enough info on the ones that are of interest.

About Sansal's mod, I don't remember if it was compatible or not with other mods, but I'm sure that a few mods would present some problems with this one, because some mods may replace the same files that Sansal's mod does. It's a matter of extensive investigation and testing. :D

Hmm, I really like the idea of the Milk Cow, I can see myself forsaking some other mods for the Milk Cow.
Which mods do you think it will conflict with? I assume mods that change skins and damage models and such wouldnt be impacted? I'd assume perhaps the Traffic and Harbor mods would be a possible conflict...maybe.
