View Full Version : To get seperate skins for VIIC and VIIB
Use a hex editor to open NSS_Uboat7b.dat search for text string ".tga" Should find two entries. These are NSS_Uboat7c_hull.tga NSS_Uboat7c_deck.tga.
Change the 7c to 7b in both entries.
Then you can use a dat tool to extract or import your skins. You can then have one for VIIB and one for VIIC. The Texture/TNormal/tex folder may also work as an override folder if you use the correct filename on your tga..

Yes, this method became possible after patch 1.3 when Devs used different digital object-IDs for textures of VIIB and VIIC subs.
Oh, didn't know everyone knew about it. Editing the deck tga name doesn't work for some reason, the hull one works well though.
Also, trying to get a good XXI skin together. Just doing some slight changes to the default game version, which I think looks good, but a little too green in the hull. Most pictures I have seen posted show the XXI to use a mostly grey colour. With a black band along the waterline.

If you're referring to profile drawings of XXIs showing a "boot line", they are wrong. No XXI had a boot line. Below the waterline was solid dark grey. Numerous artists have drawn/painted U-boats with boot lines (and often red underhulls), despite the fact that there is no photographic evidence to support it. If you want your skin to be accurate, leave out the boot line...

I just now tried your hex edit suggestion, Jace. I should have done it sooner! I don't know why I didn't. :-? :damn: I was always a bit annoyed how the VIIB and VIIC used the same skins.
For anyone who doesn't have a hex editor, I zipped up the edited DAT in question. Just place it in the right folder and you're set.

It seems I have to do a bit more thinking. I accidently packed the IXB instead! BIG mistake! Will have a corrected one up shortly...
Edit:
Here is the corrected file. Sorry about that.       :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:
