which setting influences the numer of aircraft in each airstrike? i would like to modify my airstrike cfg in a way, that the most strikes are one attacking plane only.

The airstrike cfg allows you to alter the frequency of air attacks per Ai skill level. To adjust the number of aircraft in each wave you must go to Dat/Land and have a look at the airbase flies. Each airbase cfg has a list of attached squadrons:

EndDate=19401225

Squadron1No=2

The number in Bold is the one you want to change. In the stock game, some of these nubers are as high as 24! :o. In testing for the Forthcoming Ops-Mod we found that 4, 2 or 1 give much better results. Jace's airpower mod also has reduced flight numbers. I think 2 is probably best.

my perception is that the vast majority of plane vs uboat encounters where a 1 on 1 sitiuation, cept for ocasions when a sub was chased by carrier forces or tactics like swamp where used. i might be wrong here.

The version that comes in the forthcoming RUB 1.43 / Ops Mod contains reduced aircraft numbers. Jace's airpower mod aready contains much reduced numbers but I don't know if they are right down to one aircraft per spawn.

In my mind it is about balance as well as realism and sometimes more planes create a better experience than just one. It is something I am continuing to test. I suspect there may be a link between aircraft spawn rates (as defined in the Airstrike cfg,) and the number of aircraft spawned at one time...Basically, reducing the squadron numer in the airbases file may do more than simply lower the amount of planes that will attack you.

This LAND folder will replace the one currently installed. It will give you single long range patrol planes instead of pairs.

I have been using it for a while and like it, but a UFLAK can make mincemeat out of a single plane, and I didn't like that unbalancing the mod.

ANyway, I sent it to Beery too, but I don't know if he's including it in next real U boat version...

To Install extract zip and copy to :\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\Data

ive started playing again, and i did some patrols via the sh3 commander and a few other mods enabled. im using the airpower 1.4c, and in my recent cereer, starting april 41, i was attacked 4 times by aircraft, in the 3 missions it lasted. had to return to port after 4 days in the first 2 missions, after receiving heavy damage from airattacks. was sunk on the 3rd patrol by aircraft. all attacks where cinducted by a pair of catalinas, with very high precision. it was always good wather, and i never had the chance to dive in time. last attack occured in july 41, near the canary islands. imho the frequency, skill and "ok im dead" factor is way out of place for that timeframe.

thnx m8. since im interested in a "realistic" playstyle, im no flakuser anyways. i have not much experience with defeating airattacks via flak in the game. im trying to minimize the gamey use of glitches or sain. the developers probably used the mass air attacks to offset the very high accuracy ai gunners, opponents and yours, have. things like seastate or recoli dosnt seem to influence gunner precision.
