I've sunnk myself on at least four occasions with those things. I love them but I keep forgetting that they follow the loudest thing in the water. Now I make sure I'm at all stop before I fire and I stay that way until it's at least 500 meters away.

I fired one of those when it ended up in my loadout without me being aware of it. I managed to avoid getting hit when it turned back at me cause I was already diving trying to hide from the destroyer that I'd fired at. It did after reaquire the Destroyer, but missed it. In fact, I've fired off maybe 5 of those, and never scored a hit with one, so I don't carry them anymore. :(

Really?
Wow i use them just for ANTI-Escort duty.
LAst patrol i took out a whole convoy escorts with them (1 frigate, and 2 dest.)

They were a godsend for me. I was able to take out an entire medium convoy with three escorts in very heavy fog with them. Just fire down the bearing the sound is coming from wait, followed all but twice by a bright explosion in the fog. Fifteen or so ships down and out.

Well, it wansn't all that bad- The VW I lossed at went to 35kts and a hard turn....then he slowed down to ping.

Bad move on his part: the Zaun made a 180 right over my afterdeck and slammed into his side 299m away.

Still mopping up the control room...much poopeh on deck.

You could do what they were instructed to do in the war: crash dive to at least 60 metres after firing from the bow or run silent if it was a stern shot.

strange....never been struck by my own fish...yet...

allthough, on MANY ocations, the soundseekingfish has been struck by the propeller on a DD, then tossed several hundred meters threw the air......but allways manage to kill it's intended target with a 90% killrate...

I actually never used them yet, but they sounds like great fun!

Wellcome to the club dude!

Last night I almost blew up my brand new XXI sail. I sent the bugger (ZII) towards a DD that was closing fast, it missed, turned towards me... I was flankin' to escape the DD's first DCs and I didn't pick up enough depth so the damn thing blew my conning tower. :damn:

I had mine bounce for the first time last night. Very heavy fog, good sound contact. I let one fly down the sound bearing and wait. I punched over to the free cam to get a view of the impact. The stern of the C3 comes down on a wave and the torp hits the ship's prop and flies head over heels about 100 meters, then dives for the bottom. :stare: :damn:

The second shot set for a lower depth got him though.

I played once a single mission with a VII/41 and fired one of this thingies at a V&W ... Hell I was suprised when I turned the scope below the waterline and spotted the eel how it tried to reload itself - into my stern tube from outside :o

Maybe I should have had opened my aft torpedo door, so it would just come back to daddy :hmm:

Anyway I had the door closed and I did eat some kraut explosives.

I confirm, those nice fish need to be handled with care.

Don't fire them if you are running more than "slow"
with diesel engine, or 1/3 with electric.

I must say that they are the ultimate weapons against
escort or 'sticky' DD.

But i've noticed one thing when using them. Seems
some of the warship you engage get in their own
"silent running" mode to avoid them.

When this happen with DD i usualy give them a little 'suggar'
if the torpedo is well placed, like dropping a decoy to make
them move and get noisy.

Gents:

I just completed successful Northren sortie around England in a XXI. I had two of them on board. I modded to get the sub by June 43. I cam e upon a convoy heading east to northwest english ports.... becvaseu of mis calutiing the convoys speed I had to fire at 16 yards... sank onr t3, one c2 and one liberty ship with 5 tarps.... I saved the last .... the Zaun for the de to my south .. I went noisy deliberatlely to make him locate me and run at me... he did..... I had turned to him... locked on him fired the Zaun and dove to 100 meters fast and went left..... and quiet....... used the f12 key and watched ..... he took one in theenginge room... did not sink him... I slowed down reloaded... and hit the convoy again with ladder shots.... went to F12.... dove and went in op direction .... and went to 225 meters..... watched the show.... depth charges no where near me... and sank total of 5 ships....

Using the senser pack buy Jumgman... nice..... useingb the snorkel at 15 when ever sea state allows.... never have problems with battery only the co2 limits endurance.

Didm't tje XXI have a rwr on the snorkel to get realy warning on incoming ac? Also... I put up both periscopes so ai crew can watch for ac.... works bueatifullly.... Good luck and good hunting...
