I'm 42, going on 14 apparently.

The wife has pretty much given up on getting me to stop playing, so I now I come to bed when she turns in (usually) and she is getting more 'attention', so to speak.

Well I'm 52 actually and I was never on a real U-Boat but I have visited the Finnish sub "Vesikko", the Type IIA prototype. I have also been to Chicago on several occasions but never had time to see the U-505:cry: .
I did once spend a day at sea in a Royal Navy "A Class" boat, while doing an underwater warfare course.

Oddly, my wife would prefer it the other way around. :hmm: I don't understand the logic - she complains when I'm on the computer, she complains when I'm at the pub, so I don't see the difference either way.

A friend of mine's three sons all grew up as tabletop wargamers. When his wife complained that's all they ever did, he replied "Well, they could be out on the streets playing with guns and drugs instead".

Funny, I voted back when the poll was new, and I could have sworn I posted something then. Anyway, I'm 56, still play in a rock 'n' roll band, still ride motorcycles, still...well, that parts none o' your business.

I love Kraftwerk (its a very 'aquired' taste)
I have size 15 feet (O_O!)
I dont smoke, or do drugs (though the occasional brandy has passed my gums >_>)

Well, I turned 58 the end of May. Never served on a Sub (Army, Airborne, 66-70) but I have toured the U-505 3 times and would do it again. My first tour of the U-505 was some 48 years ago and it hooked me on subs for the rest of my life. My first Sub-sim was Seawolf or 688 Attack Sub, I can't remember which was first. Don't laugh, ya'll are headed for CRS sooner or later if you live long enough. :yep:

43 here and although I started with "Pong" and "Space Invaders", I have been an avid fan of simulations ever since. I just picked up SH3 a few weeks ago.

My father served in the US Navy from '39 to '45 aboard three destroyers: Hammann, Bristol, and Isherwood. He said he tried several times to transfer to subs, but couldn't break free of the tin cans.

Nice distribution of ages here...

29 here, as far as I remember from last time my friends tried to wish me happy birthday. What's wife anyway? A woman I live with doesn't even ask "What are you doing? Why aren't you asleep? Well I have to hand it to you Sir, that sounds a whole lot cooler than 'just' 1971: I'm from Generation X! I guess that will turn at least a couple of heads at birthday parties :D

So what does a 35 year old kid do with his spare time? At this moment I'm sharing my PC time solely between SHIII and sim racing, as that's my second big hobby. Actually sim racing was the first but then all of a sudden that darn SHIII just grabbed me and won't let go.

Thus now I'm roaming the oceans in my (t)rusty IXB on my gaming rig while setting up the competition schedule for our racing team, writing race reports and patrol logs on the laptop. It's a great combination.

I'm 37. Frankly I was surprised to see the poll result. I used to wonder how many 30 something guys are there who still play computer games ... Turn out I'm not the only kid around ...:D Phew...

My first subsim game was Wolfpack, in the late 80s IIRC. Back then my favorite games were Wolfpack and Battle of Britain: their finest hour.

I don't understand your pub-love. As far as I understand what a pub is (a friend of mine was in one once, at least he says that), you can't crash dive or loose your fish there... I was also told, that there's a danger of meeting a woman in pub, so I prefer to stay on my boat with my fellow sailmen. The advantage is they don't want me to focus on them all the time... :)

Does 'me[n]tal health" mean 'hull integrity'? And has the alcohol anything to do with the diesel fuel? You are talking about really weird things, guys, I'm feeling a bit lost...

PS And let' say the truth... We're not sub-lovers, pub-lovers, medium-age-crisis-guys... we are just SH3- or sub- or computergame-addicted. :)

Alcohol in the diesel fuel makes it thin but gives you an extra 50 RPM as a result:up:

37 Years old with a VERY VERY VERY patient wife who understands my game addiction but does not partake in it. SH III, Dangerous Waters, City of Heroes and a large gammut of board games (mostly hex and counter war, sci fi/fantasy war,) or pencil and paper RPG's (What ? Play a computer RPG ??? ARE YOU INSANE :o !!?!)

A friend of mine used to work on the San Juan (Which killed his marriage eventually...all that time out to sea and away..) and getting a tour of it really created my interest in subs... then I found 688i Hunterkiller and discovered that his sub is actually in the game !! Then I moved to Sub Command and it was in that too !! Then Dangerous Waters.. and guess what ???? It's in there as well !!!

59 here a fan of war sims for years. Play SHIII and IV, just picked up World in Conflict. Also love platformers on my PSP.

A 16 year USN vet. Began as a Gunners Mate Missleman worked up to E8 and jumped to the LDO program. Spent all my time in WestPac sans the tour at Great Lakes Gunnery School. Got commissioned and jumped out as a Ltjg.... it ceased to be fun after the officer gig. Now I'm a Auditor.. everone's friend :o . Moved from Socal to Dallas and here I be.

SHIII is one of the best sims out there, the Modders have made it so. IV is coming along - but III takes the cake. Nothing better than standing on deck watching the sea move.

Ex Air Force Flight Surgeon, F-100s et al, watched the Berlin Wall go up and go down, remember the Korean war (which is largely forgotten), had a father with Chennault and the AVG in Kunming. Much experience modding combat flight sims (no surprise there) and started with SHI. I find the modding, code modifications, challenges of technic, and the learning curve quite satisfying. Am impressed with the commitment to quality programming and patience with questions I find in the SH3 (and in the flight sim) world most commendable. Hat off to all of you experienced modders (Jimbuna, Lehman, Racerboy, the GWX and NYGM teams...and the others whose names escape me) we all benefit from your fine work.

43. Played my first computer game in a shop in sheffield on the way to a games workshop site. apple star trek game. my first computer dragon 32 which i learnt to program on. first program I wrote was a D&D character generator. Now program for a living.
First major game that blew my socks off.. wolfenstein 3d...you could actually look around corners:D
Still can play doom in my head every level of the shareware version. Favourite games Doom2, Doom3(mod of doom), Civ , AOD, SH3, EU3, Crusader Kings, SimCity and my latest fave Space Rangers 2

Major gripes of the computing industry.. Multplayer is the focus against AI for single player... MP is far easier to program for. Whereas AI is not worth the investment.
Graphics adds to the immersion factor but has lost out to gameplay. I am now at the stage where I can honestly say bugger the new games wait for bargin bin.. whearas I used to buy a game a month..

As far as subsim, gone from wolfpack to AOD through all Silent hunter games and 688/ sub command.
As for other games, Flight simulator series and also was an avid fan of morrowind/oblivion ( a little less for the last one).

What a fantastic relief to find myself on a forum made up of many mature members :D. I have frustratingly spent the last 18 months on a lesser games forum putting up with spam, flames, trolls, ignorance and stupidity from many younger members on a daily basis. Great also to see the calibre of posts from the younger members here. Call me judgemental or ageist, I care not, but God bless Subsim

32, currently waiting for the release of GWX 1.04 upon which I will recall the VISTA Installation guide for GWX (as my previous Laptop has been stolen, including my GWX career) and embark on the adventure of installing sh3 with GWX in VISTA Ultimate (whilst reading a games list stating that sh3 patched vanilla is prone to prolems under vista).

Hi Hartmann I'm not plannning on getting married either. I'd like to fall in love every now and then:rock:. My first subsim was Silent Hunter II and Sub Command back in the days of my varsity years. Yea older games came with better packaging and stuffs like the manual was actually written with some degree of quality and quantity as well as accuracy.

Nowadays game costing more than 100 bucks comes with less, much less than those ol games. I'm feelin ol because im talkin about ol games...

Don't let your spirit sags. Keep the faith! Soldier on!:sunny:

The thought of "clicking" on over 51 brought a smile to my face. Over 19 years ago I was still in uniform and only a few years away from my last war ( Gulf War 1991 ).

Tried hard to get in to the fray over there, but ended up stateside working the MI side of the house in support of Special Ops.

Love the slow stalking and "one shot kill" nature of the game. Much like Elk hunting!

The maths is easy. To have joined a U-Boat crew aged 17 in 1945, he would have had to be born in 1928.

So any ex U-Boat mariners out there have to be at least 80 years of age.
