While doing some web browsing today I discovered something new about DirectX from Microsoft. Last Dec 2005 they came out with some new files for DirectX. The version number of directx is still 9.0c but these new files are dated dec 2005. So I downloaded and installed these new files from Microsofts DirectX web site.

Not sure if everyone keeps their DirectX files up to date or not. Sometimes it's a good thing to do and other times it's not so good. Depends on your system and the age of the games you are playing.

Been playing Enemy Engaged Apache Havoc, an old game that I just installed, and I noticed that it helps me hover the copper better after I installed the new DirectX files.

Not sure if this would help your sounds or not but it's maybe it might help

Hi.

When I first got the game I found that whenever another unit
ping'ed me , for example in the stock mission "SD breakout" if
you just go to the 3D window and watch the Akula for about 30
seconds, the OHP will ping you...

The ping would be extremely loud in the 3D screen! Even if I
set MaxPingVolume to 5, 1 or 0... I tried disabling "special effects"
as well but this didn't help. It seems that all pings were the
maximum volume regardless of distance...

Then I tried running dxdiag and setting the directsound hardware
acceleration slider all the way to the left (no acceleration)... all of
a sudden, the pings are working as they should... and
MaxPingVolume is now actually reducing the ping volume!

So I thought I would share the above solution.

By the way for reference my sound hardware is: Analog Devices
AD1881A • 16-bit CD-quality stereo sound • 3D Surround • AC97
Sony Vaio laptop...[/quote]

i figured those low on the DW food chain like myself (ie fellow plankton) might find this helpful.

I recently had this "problem" during the russian rebels campaign while engaging a ship. I got surrounded by like 10 torpedoes in reply :hulk:

I just shifted the headset a few centimeters away of the ear, preventing an irreversible damage of my Tympanos :hmm:

Aside from the tips mentioned here, maybe try Finitless Sound Mods ... I think he approached this problem as well and seriously tuned particularly the pings down.

So if nothing else works, his Sound Mods might be worth a try ... plus you get a lot of nice sounds on top of that "fix".
