Do not install the game in a Program Files folder. When you got the prompt for the install path, make your own folder, such as "C:\Games \Silent Hunter..." or whatever. Once you have the WotP installed, navigate into that game folder and use Ctrl-A combo to Select All files. Then right-click on one and choose Properties at the bottom of the page. On that frist General tab is a "Read-only" tick box. Make sure there is no tick mark there. Click on it to clear it, then click on OK, which brings up another dialog. On that, tell it "Apply changes to the selected items, subfolders and files", and OK that. Now bring the U-Boat missions file(s) in, and apply the update. One thing to note here, is that my U-Boat Missions files had a set number of applications, and then my email license no longer worked. I had to email Ubisoft support and get a new one. This was probably 5 or 6 years ago and it took over a week to get it. Someone else on here a couple of years ago had to wait over 2 weeks. I you are NOT in a Program Files folder, do not bother with all of that.
As for it not running, the game was originally intended for Windows XP 32-bit, and analog display screens. You have a 'modern' computer, and probably an LCD display. Windows 10 and the hardware need you to lead them through the process to run your game. So navigate into the game folder, and right-click on your SH4.exe again. Choose "Properties", and on the "Compatibility" tab, you will find the Compatibility settings. Some folks don't have to touch that, but others need to set it to one of the earlier Windows versions, such as XP SP2, or Win7. Also on that dialog is "Disable fullscreen options". Tick that box and OK it, and try running the game. Windows might 'helpfully' offer to run the Compatibility Troubleshooter. You can try that also, but for my computers, it is an exercise in frustration. There is one more thing to try on that Compatibility tab though. At the bottom is a "Change high DPI settings" button. Click that, and on the dialog it brings up, tick the "Override high DPI scaling behavior..." and set the drop-down box to "Application". Try to run the game again. Hopefully you are going after that... If not, then post back with a light set of your computer specs, such as CPU, amount of RAM, where the game is installed, and the video card you are using, along with the monitor and its native ("Recommended") resolution. :salute:

Sorry it's still not cooperating with you. Are you trying to run any mods? Navigate into "C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4" where UserName is your log-in name, and Documents might be My Documents. Delete the SH4 folder there, which the game will re-create the next time you start it. Maybe you have old data in there from previous runs that are not compatible with what you have now.
If you would, let us know your computer's CPU, such as Core i5. You can run System Info to find that. Also, the amount of RAM you have installed, as well as what video card, or on-board chipset you have, and the display monitor you have. :salute:

OK, good graphics card, and plenty of horsepower in the computer itself. Your use of a TV screen for your display presents some issues though. You say "(used for some Yeas now)", so I am assuming you are using the HDMI and that the TV only does 1080p, which would be 1920 x 1080 (also a limit of the HDMI spec). The thing to do then, is make certain that you have the computer and video card set to 1920x1080 with the 30Hz refresh rate. The scaling resolution is on the first page of the Display Settings, while the refresh is on the "Advanced" page. I have my doubts as to whether Windows would properly identify the TV over the HDMI connection, but maybe it does. If it does, then in the Display Settings you could use the setting that has the "(Recommended...)" resolution and refresh. Once you have that set, navigate into your Documents folder on the computer (C:\Users \UserName \Documents) and find the "SH4" folder there (if any) and delete that. Set your SH4.exe properties as described above, and then try to start the game. Hopefully, you will get a 1024x768 screen showing. If you do, go into Options and the graphic settings choice, and set the game to use 1920x1080 30Hz (or whatever your TV is) and OK that. See if you get into the 3D world like that. If you do, you might find that the TV "border" cuts off a portion of your screen all of the way around the four edges. You might be able to used a "Windowed" mode of a lower resolution, but don't count on it... :salute:

well, paul, i can understand your frustration.
the answer is yes.
i've taken screenshots of my SH4-Stock version of the launch-shortcut and saved them in a Wordpad file for you to review.
my version of SH4 seems to be the same as yours: Ver 1.5 from the Silent Hunter 4 - Gold Edition with Uboat. DVD.
i hope this helps.

I have followed all the Instructions to get this working properly again, so don't understand why It's playing up again!
Any help or suggestions please?

Not any help here, but did you just have a windows 10 update? Microsoft updates seem to break stuff.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, I had same problem, tried recently to install disc version on Win 10, got same error. Did manage to get past the red notification, as far as inputting serial but wouldn't accept. TBH, it's not worth the faff, lost most of the weekend fannying about. Fortunately Steam had their version on offer this week for £3:21 inc. uboat missions, got that, runs like a dream.

Hello everybody again.
This Is the last time I will Post this subject.
As you can see this Post has been running for some time now.
I don't understand why Silent Hunter 4 Gold Edition "wolves of the Pacific + UBoat Missions"
When Installed Works on my Computer on one occasion and not on another occasion
As said, I recently Purchased a New Hard Drive and consequently had to Install a fresh
Windows 10 Home Edition, the Same edition as previously Installed.
As I have also said Silent hunter has always worked perfectly well for me In the past on this
Computer with the same Windows !0 Installation as previously Installed.
A couple of times recently my computer has gone Into reset mode, meaning a Re-Installation of
my present Games.
I was advised recently to purchase the Steam edition of Silent Hunter 4 but that did not work
either. took forever to get a refund?
I get the Impression that something Is missing/not loaded In SH4 or my Computer, that makes It
work. I have Adobe, Direct X 9C, .Dot Installed but unsure If anything else Is required or If Sh4 has everything Included In It for It to Work.
Many thanks for al your help previously with this.
Paul.
Hello everybody.
I have moved to this Forum due to the Fact, that somewhere this Morning I saw somewhere on the Subsim Forums that somebody has "Silent Hunter III running on Windows 10.
I also have my original Silent Hunter III CD/DVD In my Archives but It will not run on my Windows 10. Am told It requires something from Windows 95.
Sadly, for whatever reason *I have managed to lose my favourite Game/Sim
"silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific"

If you re-install windows, you must re-install the game, else it does not have the registry entries in Windows that are required to run it...
