Hi all

So recently I have reinstalled the "Soviet Waterway" Mod for Silent Hunter 4.
It is a very well made mod but there is one issue. The voicelines in some boats are played double. What this means is that when you, for example, order a change in speed, the "All ahead X" voiceline is played twice, the two instances play at the same time resulting in a very strange reverb. This somehow seems to be tied to the type of boat you are commanding since it only occurs in about half the boats. In some other boat types there are no voices at all and in two or three they work fine :hmmm:
Anyone have an idea what causes this issue?

SH4 is built toward a US Navy Submarine paradigm, so when you, as the Captain, give an order, it goes through the Chief of the boat, who repeats what you "said", both as confirmation of your order as it was heard, but also telling the responsible crewman to do the order, and that crewman then repeats the order as he understood it, hence the "Ahead Full!" "Aye sir, Ahead Full" and then "Ahead Full". At least they don't repeat it back again once the order has been fulfilled...

The differences between the boats has to do with what boat it was copied from to make the Soviet Waterways version. :salute:

I think you misunderstand. The order is not beign repeated, the voiceline is played twice at the same time, so there is two people talking over each other

Here I made an audio recording. First on a sub where the audio is normal and then on a bugged boat:

In that case then, we'll have to change my video response to

Oh wow... that is odd... First question would be "did you empty the save folder (C:\Users \UserName \Documents \SH4) after activating the mod set?" Second of all can you run JSGME, and click on "Tasks...", then choose "Export activated mods list to..." and use "Clipboard" if you will paste it in right away, or "Text file" to copy and paste the information later. That might help a bit in a diagnosis...

In the meantime, I am attempting to download and activate it myself again, to see if it does the same on my computer... Do you have the v1.12 or v1.3 updates activated??

I gave up on trying to get it to run on my machine... never could get it to load to the menu even... I have no clue what you're dealing with there SwissSubCommander, nor anyway to look at and diagnose... maybe one of the devs, or someone who knows them will stop by...

Here the mods I have activated:

Addon Soviet Waterway (v_111)
Path SW v_112
Kyrillisches Alphabet
RussiaRadio
Realmine_SW
BalticSea
Russian_Voice_Crew_for_SH4 (Corrections)

It seems the M-class submarines all have working voices. So does the AG-class and U-2. There is no rhyme or reason to it...:nope:

I FIXED IT

So, you know how there are nine files numbered 1-9 inside the speech folder? I suspected the bugged subs were playing the voicelines double because they "chose" two of these folders at the same time. And so, with a lot of trial and error, I rooted out which sub is using which folder and found the solution. "Simply" remove all of the speech-folders except 1,2,3 and 7. :woot:

I noticed the same thing when I was mucking about with the Soviet Waterway mod a few years back.

IIRC, the various Schuka's (plus the S class!) and anything that shares the same interior model all have the double voice problem.

What I discovered to be the cause is the figure repeating the helm orders not only appears in the Control Room, but he's physically duplicated in the Engine Room, as far as I can remember. I only discovered that by using the free cam to have a roam about the interior.

So it's the same model, using the same animations, literally being in two places at the same time.

I can't remember exactly what I did to try and fix it, but I think I opened up the interior model in S3D Editor and deleted the model placement node in the engine room in order to physically remove the duplicated figure.

It has been a few years however, so caveat emptor!

Mike.:salute:

Big Fat EDIT: Luckily I still have the various files stashed on my PC, so I've been able to see and remind myself of what I did.

I didn't delete the character node, I went into it's sub node calling up the animation file the figure uses and changed that. So the figure in the engine room is still there, but he now uses a different animation from his compatriot in the Control Room. By the looks of it, I borrowed the expanded GE Anim files that Ducimus created for his Nine Delta Two Mod.

This was way back in 2016 judging from the file dates, however I can't remember the exact details.

I hope that's of some help!:)

Mike. (again!)
