open question to the modders...

has anyone thought of defining Damage Control in three sections rather than one?

what would be the pros/cons of defining it into three sections, as the other compartments are, versus one section?

would DC function properly in SH4 if one did define the compartment according to watch sections?

:hmmm:

Are you talking about the crew themselves KM? Or the hull / bulkheads, or the the equipment? :salute:

...just the crew assignments.
three sections with "n" positions per section.
no equipment...just bodies.

i can think of one advantage but i was looking for other perspectives.

The advantage would be that the 'people' on duty would be the ones to sustain injuries while in a compartment that has taken damage, while the others are "safe", which is the way it is set-up now, EXCEPT the gun positions and the watch crew, since they are considered outside of the protection of the hull. Also though, there are the fellows on their 4 hour "study" period, that would potentially be in other parts of the boat, besides the "safety" of their bunks, and could take injuries in those compartments... ?? :salute:

well.....one could set the exposure factors to whatever one wanted.
so, if you wanted the DC crew to remain somewhat protected, as many modsets have them today, i can see using exposure to keep them relatively safer than the other crew compartments.

there are two advantages that i see to deploying DC to three sections, in no particular order:

1. if deployed in three sections, the DC crew would have definitive rest periods to recover at a standard rate. today, the recovery rate is unknown. also, the on-duty and maintenance crews would have nothing to do as i do not foresee any equipment being placed within that "compartment", which is just as it is today.

2. i have noticed that crewmen assigned to the sectioned compartments accumulate experience-for-promotion at a higher rate than those assigned to the unsectioned DC compartment. so....if DC followed the same three-section config as the other compartments, the assigned-crew would qualify for higher ranks faster than they do today.

i know what i know and i know some of what i don't know but one could fill volumes with what i don't know that i don't know.

and what i do not know is what else would be affected...such as...
if one changed the DC to three sections, would that affect repairs during GQ?
just an example of what i do not know....
:hmmm:
