Greetings,

I'm trying to find an all black skin for late war model Porpoise class subs. I found one for the Gato class by Lt. Commander Lare, and for the Salmon/Sargo class by Bismark1011, but haven't found one for the Porpoise class. Is there one out there?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the photo! I was kinda hoping to find a black skin to add to my Porpoise sub here in the SH4 game.

You could use vickers03's FOTRSU 1.8 Sub Skins in 4k (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=6049), grabbing just the Porpoise Black out of there, and then change the "Date \Roster \American \Submarine \SSPorpoise.cfg" entry to only choose the black skin. You also have to change the "Data \UPCData \UPCUnitsData \UnitParts2Porpoise.upc" file to only call the one texture for all the UnitParts sections in the file. You could also keep the Stock file by editing that same Roster & UnitParts cfg & upc files. By 1944 though, most subs were painted light grey on the sides, or were in the process of getting it. That was Measure 32/33 paint. You are wanting the original war scheme of Measure 9... It would be best to create your own mini-mod to experiment with, for easier de-activation if needed...

Of coarse, floating around Mare Island (over my left shoulder in distance, abaft of Cal Maritime Academy training vessel Golden Bear) in a 'all black skin' is hardly necessary these daze! https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=8420:O:

How many horsepower is that 'motor' at your disposal there, young sir?? :arrgh!: The motor was 9.9 hp Nissan which with altered carburation could be jacked up to 15 hp. ie: 7 knots on motor/ 8 knots under full sail. My neighbor and captain, who worked on the 637 Sturgeon & 593 Thresher class nukes at Mare Island as an electronic emissions engineer(his office is one of the small white bldgs in the above post#5) https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=10478 and avid photographer, even at my daughter's recent wedding; often had to crawl 'twixt the the pressure hull and outer hull to deal with those issues-he would say "he could talk about it but then he'd have to kill me" ie; still exccedingly classified stuff!:k_confused:
On the horrific occasion when we snapped our aged rudder in two at the bottom pintel in 4' waves/30mph winds, smashing at the stern making steering highly problematic; and our excursion became a two hour ordeal (Me up on a pitching deck to hastily lower the jib and mainsail!!) as the boat spun rudderless 360 twice :nope: back to our marina as this shot reflects with longer armed me using only the thin metal folding bracket to steer our hastily unbolted, normally fixed-in-place, motor as this photo clearly reflects>https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=12423 This was always the preferred method: Whether handling shiplines or a hasty metal bracket makeshift tiller, sailing gloves are a must! >https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=10729:yep:

You were only missing the movie star, a millionaire, and his wife, Marianne, and the Professor too! You being Skipper, and your neighbor playing the part of Gilligan, but only a 2 hour ordeal, instead of a 3 hour tour... :hmmm: - can't quite carry it - you guys were too ingenious and made it back before the end of the first episode! :arrgh!: love the fisheye! :salute:
