I installed a new game to: C:Program files/Steam. I start the game, change the ingame settings to full screen, save and exit. Restart game, go to career, and hit the start button. The game loads, but it's on pause and I can't unpause it.
Any ideas on how to solve this?

Your not suppost to install SH3 in Program Files. If and it looks like you have a STEAM Copy installed. There are ways in Remove SH3 from STEAM and install it outside of Program Files. I don't use STEAM so I don't know exactly how to do this but it's documented here at SUBSIM.

Normally, Steam installs on Program files x86. But, I saw something on here that suggested SH3 wouldn't work on x86.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Steam on ProgramFilesx86. I uninstalled and reinstalled SH3 in Steam. Started game and still, game paused without a way to unpause it.

Sorry this is a bit above my pay grade because I have no knowledge of STEAM,and I don't want to mess you up.

The following post will hopefully give some insight into an installation from Steam concerning the Program Files issues:

Secondly, the stuck on pause issue is generally caused by a corrupted main.cfg file located in the Documents/SH3 folder, specifically regarding the time compression settings. See here for more info and the solution:

Good luck,
:salute:

Thanks to all. The problem was on me. I was downloading the sim, and before starting, I used the 4Gb patch. I guess the sim didn't like that. I waited until after I installed my mods to use the 4Gb. Works like it's supposed to.
Again, my thanks.

Something else I found out about starting a new install and having it show 'game paused'. Look in your C:\Documents\SH3\Data\Config\main.cfg.
If this is missing, copy and paste the following:

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=128
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=8
RadioReport=8
Particles=32
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024

Good Hunting.
